I have had Darwin for over 3 weeks, and every week his play fighting gets more rough. I never tried or wanted to play fight with him, but it seem to be the only thing he wants to do. It usually starts by biting my ankles and feet, and then chasing my feet or hands. I have tried tolerating the bites and ignoring him at the same time, but then he gets too aggressive and will break the skin. I have tried clapping really loud or attemping to imitate a dog yelp, but he is non-responsive to those. This past week he is now biting any part of me that is accessible (middle of the arm or leg, abdominal area, head...anything). I give him 2-3 walks per day and attempt to play fetch - even though he is only interested in my hands and feet. The strange part is that he is calm and pleasant around other dogs and people. He doesn't even play rough with other dogs when at a daycare. I have also tried giving time-outs, but I am not sure how to do this without making him afraid of the crate (right now, he does really well in a crate and I do not want to lose that). --It is clear that I am the issue in this dynamic. What should I do?

I adopted my skye terrier mix, Sammy, from the shelter about 2 months ago. I was told he was abused and neglected by a man, and I can tell that he is very nervous around men.rnrnWhen I first got him he hardly ever barked. I probably heard him bark about 5 times in the first 2 weeks I had him. However, as time has gone on his barking has become a problem. Whenever I take him on a walk he barks and lunges at any man we pass by. And recently he has began barking and lunging at other dogs.rnrnHe has also grown very territorial of me and if I pet another dog he will get between me and that dog and growl until the other dog backs off. rnrnHe is very sweet and has never bitten or tried to bite anyone or any dog. However, I am really hoping I can fix these problems before they becomes any worse.rnrnThanks,rnMaddie

Hello, so I am crate training my dog and he has been doing fabulous and no accidents so far. Yesterday as usual I took him out to go to the bathroom and he went to pee and poop. After that I followed your advice from our phone call a few days ago and let him in the apartment a little to play and to know it's his home too and not just the crate. He then was sniffing about 2 minutes later and went to poop. I grabbed him before he could and took him right outside and he did not want to go. He was crying and pulling to go back inside. He finally peed another dime amount but was still pulling to go back inside and just laying down on the floor. I put him back in the crate after that because I did not want any accidents. Do you know why this happened? I am wondering if I am taking him out on a proper schedule. We take him out every 2-3 hours during the day and let him sleep from midnight until 5 and take him out again. We feed him at 7am, 11am, 3 pm and 7pm again. The vet said to feed him 4 times a day now because he is a puppy so we take him out before he eats and after as well as every 2-3 hours. Is this ok? Or should we be on a better schedule? Could this be the reason he almost pooped in the house? I'm a bit confused and hope we are on a good schedule. When can we wait a little longer to take him outside? rnThank you for your time!!!
