National Veterinary Advisory Council


The Bark Busters National Veterinary Advisory Council (VAC) is made up of select, qualified veterinarians who serve in an advisory capacity as an expert resource to the Bark Busters network of dog behavioral therapists on matters pertaining to canine health and fitness, medical conditions, treatment of injuries and disease, canine pharmaceuticals, and best health practices for dog owners.

The VAC has two tiers of membership: Executive VAC Members and General VAC Members
.

Dr. Douglas Berger
All Creatures Veterinary Clinic,
South Carolina

Dr. Doug Berger, a native of New York, has been engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine for 20 years. He owns and operates All Creatures Veterinary Clinic in Charleston, S.C. He has extensive experience in small animal medicine and surgery as well as exotic and ruminant medicine and surgery. Dr. Berger is also an active veterinary acupuncturist, having completed over 400 hours of study in veterinary acupuncture at Colorado State University. Dr. Berger is currently featured in a new TV series called “Rescue Vets.”

Dr. Holly Cogswell
Aurora Animal Hospital,
Colorado

Dr. Cogswell has owned and led Aurora Animal Hospital since 2003. A graduate of Colorado State University, one of the world’s leading veterinary schools, she also completed an externship at the prestigious Angel Memorial animal hospital in Tokyo and received her Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture from CSU. Caring and experienced, Dr. Cogswell is a veterinarian whose life-long love for animals pushes her to care for your pets as passionately as she does for her own. A Colorado native, Dr. Cogswell looks after a furry family including kitties Ling and Scout and mutt Chico.

Dr. Sharyn Esposito
 Aurora Animal Hospital,
Colorado

Dr. Sharyn Esposito has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1996 after graduating from Colorado State University of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an externship before graduation at the Kaytee Avian Research Center, has been published in Popular Pets Magazine and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Cavey Care Rescue. Dr. Esposito nurtures a big family, including: dogs Riley and Tashi; kitties Trapper, Turtle and Midnight; a bearded dragon; a Russian tortoise; two parrots; three horses; and 10 chickens; along with her husband and two children.

Dr. Lee Lipsitz
VCA Baybrook Animal Hospital,
Connecticut

Dr. Lee Lipsitz earned her DVM degree from Michigan State University in 1996. While at MSU she also received a MS and PhD in the field of neurotoxicology. Although she planned to stay in academia and teach future veterinarians, she just couldn’t give up the day-to-day satisfaction of working in a private practice. Although originally a New Yorker, Dr. Lipsitz moved from Michigan to Connecticut in 2002 and has been with VCA Baybrook Animal Hospital since then. Dr. Lipsitz is the Medical Director of this full service hospital in Milford, Connecticut. She loves all aspects of the practice but especially loves dentistry, surgery and ulstrasound.

Dr. Gary Mendelsohn
Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital,
New York

Dr. Gary Mendelsohn, a native of New York, has actively pursued his passion of veterinary medicine for 16 years. He and his partner, Steven Ringler, DVM, own Dobbs Ferry Animal Hospital in Dobbs Ferry, NY. A graduate of Ross University, he has experience in both general veterinary practice and emergency medicine. He also enjoys fly fishing and playing the saxophone. He is married to Christina Mendelsohn, DVM, and has two children, two dogs, a cat, a blue tongued skink, a Russian tortoise, two fish tanks and a rabbit. They currently reside in northern Westchester.

Dr. Mary Philippson
Ark Pet Hospital,
Minnesota

Dr. Mary Philippson is the owner of Ark Pet Hospital in New Brighton, Minn. A 2001 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, she purchased Ark Pet Hospital in 2008. Her companion animal practice includes dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and small mammals. She is a member of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and American Veterinary Dental Society. She works with several area pet rescue organizations that help find “forever homes” for pets in need of good homes. She also enjoys volunteering her time at the Minnesota State Fair MVMA’s Spay and Neuter Suite in the Pet Center Building each year.

Dr. David Randall
Big Cypress Animal Clinic,
Florida

Dr. David Randall graduated from the University of Florida in 1985 and began his career alongside his father at Big Cypress Animal Clinic, which was established in 1977. After two years of working together Dr. Randall Sr. retired and Dr. David took over the family practice. Dr. Randall spent 15 years caring for many animals of all breeds and sizes, including but not limited to dogs, cats and horses. Ten years ago, Dr. Randall dedicated his practice to small animal breeds only. Big Cypress Animal Clinic is a member of AAHA and is proud to offer all medical and surgical services to SW Florida guests and residents. Dr. Randall is the host of SW Florida’s television show “DR 4 PETS,” and when he is not saving our local furry best friends, he can often be found flying overhead as he is also an accomplished, instrument-certified pilot.

Dr. Suzanne Ransom
North Oaks Animal Hospital,
Michigan

Dr. Suzanne Ransom is a 1994 graduate of Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Born in Michigan, Dr. Ransom moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where she met her husband, business partner, and best friend, Dr. Matt Fish. Dr. Ransom and her husband own and have operated North Oaks Animal Hospital in Clarkston, MI, since 1998. Dr. Ransom’s areas of interest include dentistry and dermatology as well as behavioral medicine. From a young age, she has been very passionate about helping animals and through her practice works extensively with many local rescues providing veterinary services to improve the quality of life for shelter rescued pets. Dr. Ransom aspires to expand the house call side of her business to provide care in the comfort of the home, especially for euthanasia services. She has two children: Cassondra, 11, and Jack, 10. Cassondra hopes to follow in the family business. 

Dr. Stuart Ray Rosenburg
Bayshore Animal Clinic,
Florida

Dr. Stuart Ray Rosenburg is originally from Long Island, NY. He graduated from Penn State (Roar Lions Roar) with a BS in 1989 and University of Tennessee with his DVM in 1993. He has lived and practiced around the country from Seattle, WA, to San Diego, CA, to Ocala, FL, and finally placed roots in Tampa, FL, where he owns Bayshore Animal Clinic in South Tampa, FL. His background is not only in Small Animal Medicine, but also in Zoo Medicine. In addition, he integrates Eastern Medicine in his practice, using acupuncture, herbology, and food therapy in the care for his patients. Dr. Rosenburg is an avid skydiver and enjoys foreign travel as often as he can.

Dr. Cary Waterhouse
Lake Union Veterinary Clinic,
Washington

Dr. Cary Waterhouse is the owner and lead veterinarian at Lake Union Veterinary Clinic in Seattle, Wash. Dr. Waterhouse has been practicing small animal veterinary medicine in the Seattle area since May 2002, when he graduated from the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Waterhouse has special interest in internal medicine, endocrine disorders, and caring for geriatric pets. Prior to his career as a veterinarian, Dr. Waterhouse taught high school biology and chemistry. This training in education better prepared him to work with his clients, helping them to understand the complexities of medical conditions their pets face, and ultimately resulting in better treatment outcomes. In his off time, Dr. Waterhouse enjoys being outside in the Pacific Northwest, weather permitting. He also likes to cook and travel.

Dr. Jeff Bloomberg
Park-Wise Animal Hospital,
Illinois

Dr. Jeff Bloomberg is a 2001 graduate of the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine. He married a classmate, Dr. Katherine Bloomberg, and together they operate Park-Wise Animal Hospital in Schaumburg, Ill. Dr. Bloomberg has great interest in breed dispositions for disease and has been written about concerning this subject in national veterinary publications. He also has great interest in laser surgery and the use of lasers in the treatment of chronic illnesses.

Dr. Juan Colom

Dr. Juan Colom is a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico. He earned his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida in 2002. He went on to earn his DVM from Kansas State University in 2006. Dr. Colom also enjoys working on small mammals and 'pocket pets' in addition to dogs and cats. He's the proud owner of 'Vader', a Giant Schnauzer, and 'Marley' a Maine Coon cat.

Dr. Janis Fullenwider
Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital,
Florida

Dr. Fullenwider is originally from Gillette, Wyoming. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida. She also earned a Masters degree in large animal reproduction and a certification in Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM). Dr. Fullenwider prides herself on providing high quality and compassionate care to all animals. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, surgery, and the human-animal bond. She has a passion for canine and feline preventative medicine, senior care and VOM. Dr. Fullenwider is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy. In her spare time, she enjoys camping and kayaking. She is owned by 3 dogs. Dr. Fullenwider is a member of the AVMA, FVMA, NAPW, and CPOA. She regularly speaks at elementary schools, teaching children about the veterinary profession.

Dr. Jay Goldsmith
Park West Vet, South Carolina

Dr. Jay Goldsmith is originally from Augusta, GA. He attended Auburn University as an undergraduate and graduated with honors from Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduating, he began his career at a specialty practice in Sacramento, Calif., working with some of the top specialists in the field of veterinary medicine. Wanting to return to the South, Dr. Goldsmith moved back to Augusta, Ga., and worked at Acute Care Veterinary Clinic. In 2003, he moved to Charleston and opened Park West Veterinary Associates. He currently resides in Mount Pleasant with his wife, Carey, and their sons: Grant, Henry and Will. Dr. Goldsmith has a cat named Bo and a Labrador retriever named Grits.

Dr. Jodi Holcomb

Maryland

Dr. Jodi Holcomb, a Louisiana native, has been practicing veterinary medicine for 11+ years. She graduated from LSU SVM in 2000 and has since been focusing on small animal medicine and surgery. However, she does see exotics such as chinchillas, sugar gliders and the occasional reptile! She started her relief vet service “Traveling Paws LLC” in 2005 and works steadily with 4 to 5 private practices as well as the Emergency Clinic in Frederick, MD. She and her husband share 6 acres near Camp David with 2 horses, 3 dogs and 4 chinchillas. Dr. Holcomb is licensed in MD, PA and TX.

Dr. Earl Wenngren
VCA Wingate Animal Hospital,
Colorado

Dr. Earl Wenngren, Medical Director, has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1977, when he graduated from the University of Illinois. He has been at VCA Wingate Animal Hospital since 1981 and has cared not only for several generations of many families's pets, but often for pets of several generations of families. Dr. Wenngren is proud of and enjoys knowing both his patients and their people as well. Dr. Wenngren is a longtime member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society, and the American Animal Hospital Association. In his free time, Dr. Wenngren loves to travel, is a devoted fan of classical music and an avid reader, as well as a serious Avalanche fan. In good weather, you might find him riding his bicycle in Cherry Creek State Park. He has been married to Bonnie, whom he first met in sixth grade, since 1977; she teaches in the Cherry Creek School District. His daughter, Claire, is currently in graduate school in Ontario, Canada. Toby and Tschai, both abandoned at the clinic, are his two terribly spoiled cats.
