G’day and welcome to Bark Busters! I am your Bark Busters trainer for the Boulder County area.

Since you are reading this, you are likely investigating options for the best way to solve some behavioral issues that your dog(s) may be challenging you with. That’s great! I encourage all my clients to research both the method and the trainer they might select.

As a certified Bark Busters behavioral therapist and trainer, I will teach you a system of communication that your dog already knows. You will learn how to use your body language and vocal communication to get your dog to respect and focus on you. Once you have your dog’s focus and respect, the opportunity for education opens up enabling you to help them understand which behaviors are acceptable in your home and which ones are not. Using completely humane, natural techniques that appeal to the canine psyche, Bark Busters can help you get control of your dog.

 Our dog had what I call CHAOS (“Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome”). Skipper would bark nonstop when anyone came to the door. He would jump on visitors and bark and whine the whole time. It got so bad that we had to board him whenever we wanted to have people over. We had lived with this for seven years and tried several training strategies. We even consulted an animal communicator. Finally, I contacted Bark Busters. I had to leash Skipper so that Katrina could get through the door, and we had to put him in a separate room so we could talk. But once we started using the Bark Busters system, we saw results immediately! The change is Skipper was so impressive. Two days after our first session, we were actually able to have a contractor in for an estimate on some remodeling. We followed Katrina’s instructions and Skipper behaved beautifully. On a personal note . . .
I have a passion for all animals and a special affection for dogs and horses. Because of this passion, I was lucky enough to work with horses professionally early in my career, trading and training polo ponies. While working in the relief effort following hurricane Andrew, I met the love of my life, Theodore Franklin Smith, a 35-lb. American Eskimo mix.

Later, Ted and I were fortunate enough to live for two years in a small camper van and travel throughout the United States and Canada. Ted was a wonderful companion. His friendship and presence enabled me to experience the adventure of a lifetime. In my memories of our trip, Ted is always at the center.

As a supporter of the No More Homeless Pets philosophy (http://www.nmhp-hc.org/), I believe Bark Busters can have a direct impact on keeping dogs in their homes, thus reducing the abandonment and euthanasia of unwanted dogs.

I adopted a young, deaf cattle dog, and soon after I was in an accident that broke my back. Sophie had to go live with someone else for awhile. When I got her back, it was extremely painful to take her out for walks or try to control her around other dogs. I was devastated at the thought of giving her up, but I couldn't control her or get her to understand what I wanted her to do. A friend intervened on my behalf, and had me meet with Katrina. Our dog, Moose, is half coyote. For years, we had used this fact to excuse his aggressive behavior and rationalize our own difficulties in training him.
