Best Dog Training in Mid Peninsula!

Thanks for exploring Mid-Peninsula Bark Busters Home Dog Training. Please share some of my dog training journey — ten years, working with many hundreds of dog owners and well over 3,000 dogs — I realized that one should never underestimate the intelligence of dogs, the speed with which they can learn, and their eagerness to please if we understand their psychology and communicate with them effectively.

Three decades and eighty pounds ago, I used to run for exercise. I tested myself in everything from 5Ks to marathons. I noticed that whenever my running buddies and I compared notes, everyone who displayed our speed or faster was a “runner” — anyone slower was a mere “jogger.”

I had the same perceptual blinders when it came to my own dogs. Any success I had with my own dog training was attributed to “being good with animals”; anything I couldn’t change was “just a dog being a dog.” Others have called these challenged dog behaviors “quirks.” These include numerous dog behavior problems such as barking in the car, barking at bicycles, barking at skateboards, barking at motorcycles, barking whenever the UPS truck pulled up to the curb, furiously charging any fence that sheltered a dog with the audacity to bark at the dog on leash, triggering leash aggression problems, and separation anxiety. My dog was always secure in the knowledge that I would show up promptly enough to provide limo service home. The capper came when a friendly neighbor stopped to chat while driving his gleaming new pick-up. My dog Jocko jumped up to see who it was, leaving two muddy paw prints on the door at window height. A dog behavior quirk? No a dog behavior issue!

When I first heard about Bark Busters, I was more than skeptical. I’d already been through four different schools of dog obedience training. If it was possible to teach a dog anything in two hours, why would traditional dog obedience classes take eight weeks with lots of practice in between?

I had been to obedience classes where dog trainers insisted on every dog wearing a prong or shock collar. Some dog trainers used treats only. All of them had me rehearse elaborate or not-so elaborate training routines with my dogs. I took the first two dogs through these dog training classes because my dogs were eager to learn, and I wanted to know effective dog training techniques. They came out of class equipped with one or two commands; I still wanted to know how to teach.

As a Mid Peninsula Bark Buster Master dog behavioral therapist, I teach you how to teach. You will do so with the confidence that comes from a dog training approach that is custom tailored both to who you are and who your dog is. I’ve trained dogs and coached owners in the Mid Peninsula (and points north and south) for more than seven years, training more than 1,000 dogs of almost any breed with almost any combination of dog behavioral issues imaginable, including “intractable” issues such as separation anxiety and aggression towards dogs and/or humans. I am persuaded by a wealth of experience that motivating your dog to listen to you and keeping that motivation keen far outweighs the importance of specific approaches you use to teach your dog what you like and what you don’t like.

Dog owners often confess in our initial conversation: “I know it’s me — I am to blame — I spoil the dog to death — he’s such a little love bug.” Please understand, it’s not about blame, it’s about recognizing and changing habits that make us ineffective. It’s not about less love, “tough love” or less spoiling. The key is delivering our love and spoiling our dogs in ways that keep feeling them safe and secure in terms of their own instincts. This applies to both dog training and puppy training.

We don’t ask you to use shock or prong collars to correct dog behavior problems. And why do we provide home dog training? Because it works better in an environment where you and your dog are comfortable, where your daily interactions with your dog shapes the dog’s instinctive sense of the pecking order. Confusion over the pecking order must be sorted out to allow effective training. Dog behavioral problems arise first in your home, it is where dog behavioral problems need to be addressed first, to build the confidence and success required to address challenges such as leash aggression outside or aggression towards humans, whether indoors or out.

The Bark Busters dog trainers teach you how to teach every command you might learn in a standard obedience class, but do so in a manner that relates commands to what you want to accomplish with your dog. Walks are much more enjoyable for you and for your dog once you feel, as I do, that you could walk your dog on dental floss and still enjoy the same confidence and security in the dog’s response.

We offer a lifetime service guarantee which means we come back promptly to provide help or a refresher whenever you need it. You don’t have to balance the need for help against concerns for your wallet. Often issues arise when one moves, has a new child, adds or loses a life partner, or when the dog suffers any injury or illness. Each of us honors one another’s guarantees, which is especially helpful if you ever move.

Bark Busters comprises the world’s largest network of home dog training professionals. Unlike most trainers Bark Busters support each other by sharing notes and comparing approaches with each other on a continuous basis. I have worked with a dog whose training had been managed by a colleague in Australia. My own clients have received help, free of charge, from dog training colleagues all over this country.

Our lifetime guarantee means that we work to empower you as quickly as possible, but we support you as often as you need help, whether the challenges reflect the stubbornness of the dog or any difficulties you might have in bringing about the changes in the dog’s thinking or your own. Life brings about many changes. As one of my pet training clients put it, its great knowing that your dog has an advocate for life, whatever may happen and wherever it happens.

While our approach is not right for everyone, we have over half a million satisfied clients worldwide. At Mid Peninsula Bark Busters, we’ve never met a dog we couldn’t train! Perhaps more importantly, I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like.

 Client Testimonials

We are astounded by Penny's new way of walking. Paul has actually let her walk off leash a little and she stayed right by his side. He also tried to walking next to an oncoming dog/owner, normally we cross the street, and Penny didn't act up. ---We are noticing that she seems happier and more stable and secure. We are amazed. We can't thank you enough. --Kim Alchimisti, San Carlos CA

Peter and the Bark Busters program saved our family and saved our dog’s life. -- Veterinary Technician/Client in Pacifica

I was amazed at the response we got from Lucy in a very short time and how well she obeyed… -- Client in Menlo Park

My husband hated this dog until Peter Levy came. Now they are best friends! -- Client in South San Francisco

We were surprised at how simple and effective the Bark Busters’ method is. We’d paid for training in the past that seemed effective only in teaching us to be mean to our dog. -- Clients in Redwood City

Our out-of-control dogs are now very well behaved! They no longer whine at meals (stopped after ONE day), they walk on a leash by our side and it’s a miracle! --Disabled client in Redwood City

We have a NEW dog, one that responds consistently to our verbal commands! Our home is so much calmer and we no longer fear losing our dog when he goes off leash. ‘Off leash’ was an impossible dream only three weeks ago. Thank you, Bark Busters. -- Clients in San Mateo

Peter has been great – very responsive to questions and accommodating extra follow-up sessions. -- Clients in Portola Valley
