A little secret: As a small child, I was afraid of dogs, so to ease my fears, my parents (one of whom, Terri Greenhut, is now a fellow Bark Buster) gave me a dog. “Choose the one you want,” they said as I stood petrified, looking in the pet store window. “I want the little dead one,” I responded, referring to the small toy poodle sound asleep in her crate. But one cuddle won me right over, and that was all it took. Fluffy lived to be twenty years old, and during the course of her life, she was foster grandma to many other wayward pups.

My friends and family would always joke: “Don’t even let Dena set foot in a shelter” because, without a doubt, I would bring a dog home to give it a better life. One of those dogs wound up staying with me indefinitely, my Nala (pictured above); the rest are still touching my heart from the comfortable homes I found for them along the way.

We all love our dogs, right? But sometimes it’s easy to get frustrated when they constantly jump on guests, beg for food, chew up the furniture or shoes, pull you down the street, bark at every leaf that falls from the sky, toilet in the house, come to you only when they feel like it, run away for small excursions of their own around the neighborhood… I could go on and on. If you are reading this I’m betting you have one of these problems or something similar to it going on at your home. Well, keep on reading because Bark Busters can help you to change all that.

At Bark Busters we come to your home and teach you how to gain leadership over your dog so you don’t have to yell, plead, beg, or bribe your dog to respect you (not that any of that ever worked in the first place, did it?) We teach you how to speak your dog’s language to ensure better communication with your pet and better compliance with your wishes. Our methods are simple and fun, and completely nonphysical.

Whether you want to get an early start with a new puppy, correct an older dog’s bad behaviors or deal with more severe problems such as aggression, sibling rivalry or separation anxiety, we can help.

Bark Busters was started “To reduce the possibility of maltreatment, abandonment or euthanasia of companion dogs and to enhance responsible dog ownership” through proper training.

Some people become doctors, police officers, firefighters or teachers to make a difference. I believe that training dogs the Bark Busters way helps to make a major difference in the lives of not only the dogs, but the people who own and come in contact with them as well. Knowing this makes me appreciate and enjoy my job everyday.

What our clients think about us…

We’re not being dragged down the street anymore! Nine-month-old Daisy was so unruly that we were at the point where we thought we had to get rid of her, it was that bad. When Dena came to our home, literally within thirty seconds she got Daisy to stop jumping and sit down. It was absolutely magic, because nothing we’d done before had any effect. I couldn’t be more thrilled. It was worth every cent we paid. --Kirin and Jeff H., Bridgeport, CT

Unbelievable! Results started immediately - Although I was more than skeptical, by the end of the day I had to admit that my dog did have me trained, but I now knew how to turn that around. My dog and I are both much happier for it. Maxine V., Fairfield, CT

We tried three different trainers before we got in touch with Bark Busters, nothing worked! We were about ready to give up until we found Dena. She came to our house and helped us to fix the problems we were having with Lily, our dachshund. Lily wouldn’t let anyone in the house, but if they got in she wouldn’t let them back out. Now she welcomes our friends with a wagging tail instead of a bite to the ankles. We couldn’t be happier. Thank you. --Justine M., Westport, CT

Amazing results!! Almost instantaneous, with care and love on the part of both myself, and Dena, the Bark Busters therapist. She began to help even before I committed to retaining her services. --Art H., Stamford, CT

The techniques were well presented, and my dog’s constant barking at the front door stopped during our initial consultation. I am absolutely telling everyone about Bark Busters. --Melissa C., Greenwich, CT

Barkly responded to training so well. He was very aggressive with strangers, I thought we would never be able to let him out again, but in just one visit we saw such major changes in his behavior that it was almost like he was a different dog! Dena was very informative and put our dog’s thoughts into perspective in a way that made real sense to us, no jargon! I highly recommend Bark Busters to anyone who needs assistance with their dog. --Dan L., New Canaan, CT

Dena was knowledgeable and able to fully assess our problem - her recommendations and training techniques were reasonable, doable, and effective. It has been 1½ weeks and I have noticed such a significant improvement in our dog’s behavior. --Janet G., Weston, CT

I liked the idea that there were no treats or choke chains, Dena is very experienced and helped my wife and I to really enjoy the training! Thanks. --Richard C., Greenwich, CT
