Training dogs is what I truly love to do. It was a perfect match for me when I discovered Bark Busters and its holistic method of dog behavioral training. To be given the opportunity to make a positive difference in a dog’s life as well as the owner’s home life was an easy decision. Turning a bad, unruly or intolerable dog into a good, well-behaved dog is truly a rewarding experience. I am thrilled to be a licensed dog behavioral therapist and trainer, and that I can use my 20 years of dog training experience to a make a difference in Nassau County, New York, as well as the surrounding areas. Whether the problem is barking, jumping, chewing, growling, nipping, biting or any other unwanted behavior your dog is presenting, I can fix it . . . the holistic, natural Bark Busters way! - Chris Lawrence

Chris Lawrence is one of the most experienced dog trainers in the New York area, and has been working with dogs for over 20 years. Chris joined the NYC Transit Police Department in July 1985 and shortly after in September 1986 was assigned to the NYC Transit Police Canine (K-9) Unit. His life-long desire to work with dogs was finally coming to pass much sooner than he expected. The NYC Transit Police has a nationally recognized training academy. Excited to begin, Chris took part in the required 16-week training program, and passed in high standing. Trained in obedience, agility, scent detection, criminal apprehension and personal protection, Chris and his canine partner, BJ, were prepared to patrol the subways of NYC. During their time on the force, Chris and BJ competed in numerous trials and competitions with other police department K-9 units. His expertise and dedication became evident as he always finished in one of the top 3 places. From 1987-1993, Chris and BJ qualified for the annual National Police K-9 Competition throughout the country. Chris and BJ worked side by side until Chris’s promotion and transfer in December 1993.

However, Chris rejoined the Canine Unit in November 2001 and was assigned to the Emergency Service Unit canine team recovery efforts of the 9/11 tragedy. While supervising the cadaver trained dogs of the NYPD, the true importance of the police dog was never more apparent to Chris. In June 2002, Chris was assigned the position of Canine Training Supervisor of NYPD. Responsible for the training, care and well being of the entire Canine Unit proved to be his dream come true. Supervising and training police dogs for patrol duty, scent work, cadaver search, and search and rescue is what Chris found to be most rewarding. This is the position where Chris remained until his retirement in July 2005.

Not only did Chris work and live side by side with his police dogs, but he was also a true dog lover and has always had multiple puppies and dogs in his own home. He currently lives with his wife, three daughters, and their three dogs: Sandy, Thor and Checkers.
