Best Dog Training in Washington DC & Bethesda
If you’ve found your way to my website, the odds are pretty good that you have a dog whose behavior isn’t exactly what you had hoped it would be. Well, if you want to get your household on the right track, you’ve come to the right place. Bark Busters Washington/Bethesda provides in-home dog training and we work with all dog breeds and all issues. So whether you need small dog training or large dog training, puppy training or mature dog training, we can help! We work in the home because home is where dogs are the most comfortable and is also where they’re most likely to exhibit dog behavior problems. We’re able to address all dog obedience issues because our approach to dog training is pretty unique.
What we work to do is to imitate the way dogs naturally communicate. This makes everything a lot easier for your dog to understand, which makes things a lot easier for you. Is it completely labor-free on your part? Sadly, no. Dogs learn best from members of their own family, so I teach you how to teach your dog. Not only does this make it easier and less stressful for your dog, but it also makes our dog training sessions more effective. After all, if your dog learns only from me, then he may only listen to me. Unless you want to offer me your spare bedroom (let’s talk!), it’s probably best if he learns to listen to people who are home every day. So success usually depends on the completion of some homework by the dog’s family members. But because we do try to imitate canine training methods, at least that homework typically only amounts to 10 to 20 minutes a day for the first 5 weeks or so (plus being aware of what your dog is up to).
About Me ...
What I love about being a Bark Busters dog trainer is that Bark Busters dog training is a product that I can wholeheartedly endorse. I’m no salesperson. I couldn’t sell a rescue rope to a drowning man, even if the weight of his wallet was what was pulling him under. But with Bark Busters Washington DC/Bethesda, we offer the best of both worlds - speedy results (in most cases), along with the peace of mind of knowing that lifetime support is available if your dog is a challenging one now or becomes one at some point in his life.
Best of all, being a professional dog trainer is a lot of fun. I get to work with a lot of great people and great dogs. I am able to help them to dramatically improve their quality of life by sorting out some of their dog’s behavioral issues that are wreaking havoc in their lives. And we use only positive dog training methods – no harsh shock collars or prong collars for us.
It has been a welcome change from my previous career as an urban planner. Not only is it nice to see the results of my dog training efforts in hours or weeks instead of years or decades, but thanks to the in-home aspect of it, I’m even seeing more of the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area than I would if I worked as a planner. I love getting to travel to all corners of the metro area, from Springfield to Silver Spring; from small communities like Takoma Park and Chevy Chase to Washington, D.C., and bigger suburbs like Bethesda. I’m really getting to know the various neighborhoods of my adopted hometown – historic Georgetown; up-and-coming neighborhoods like Columbia Heights, Petworth, and the H Street Corridor; edgy Adams Morgan; small town-like Mount Pleasant and the Palisades; well-established hip ’hoods like Dupont Circle, Cleveland Park, and Capitol Hill; and residential enclaves like Ledroit Park, Brightwood, and Brookland. The more I see of the area the more I want to see, and the more I wish I had an extensive enough vocabulary to describe how fantastic and diverse this region is.
At Bark Busters Washington/Bethesda, I look forward to meeting you and your dog, and getting to explore your neck of the woods!

What my clients say about Bark Busters . . .
Incredible! I was honestly amazed by the significant behavioral change that I saw in my dogs, especially with one who had been resistant to dog training previously. My dogs are calmer and happier since the dog obedience training, and I feel more confident in managing them without having to resort to hands-on techniques. I have had dogs for many years, and this is without a doubt the best dog training method and experience I've had, and definitely the most effective. --Jeanette, Washington, DC
I wish I had found Bark Busters when Lola was a puppy. There are several neighbors who have noticed a difference in Lola and have inquired as to what we did. Lola has become a calmer and more obedient dog. We are, indeed, a much happier family. --Sharon, Chevy Chase, MD
It was amazing. . . . Still can't believe it. . . . Mr. Dave, as we called him, was awesome! --Lisa & Bruce, Waldorf, MD
I like the security of knowing we can call any time - methods are easy and you see immediate results - lifetime guarantee cannot be beat - reasonable price. --Kristin, Washington, DC
It teaches you to think like a dog thinks, and seems far more effective than training with treats. David was great - he checked in with us several times after the training and came back for revisits to help us more. Well worth the money.--Catherine, Washington, DC
Hands-on instruction was great by David! My wife and I saw a noticeable difference in the behavior of our dog and we credit David. --Kerry & Stephanie, Bowie, MD
Dave gave us an insight into the dog's world, thus allowing us an opportunity to become better pet owners.--Melissa, Washington, DC
The basic principles [of the training] are straightforward, and it is easy to see how they apply in different situations. A friend who happened to visit raved about the difference [in my dogs]. --Serena, Washington, DC
