Bark Busters Home Dog Training San Rafael, San Francisco, Marin County
The Barkbusters Training is the most successful and BEST training method we've experienced! And we have tried many!! We really shortchanged ourselves by going to several trainers after thinking Barkbusters was out of our financial scope. Turns out we wasted alot of money and time and subjected ourselves and our loving dog Elvis to methods that were not a good fit for our family. With one Barkbusters training with Karen, we saw IMMEDIATE improvement in Elvis and were better able to understand the motivation behind insecurities that read as aggression. Karen Gaines has dramatically improved our family life by giving us so much insight as to what we were doing to sabotage our communication with our dog, and was able to offer common sense advice and all kinds of support... And with a sense of humor! Elvis instantly acclimated to her and from the moment we opened the front door, we felt comfortable trusting in her expertise 100%. We just returned from a successful outing at the beach with Elvis and thanks to Karen's amazing training every trip to the beach is more enjoyable than the last! My wife and I swear by this method! Thank you Karen, you're the best!!!Tal M.July 30 2016
Best Dog Training San Francisco San Rafael and Marin County!
Hi! I’m Karen Gaines, your local dog trainer and behaviorist, serving all of San Francisco and Marin County (complete list below). My mission is to cure your dogs’ behavioral problems by teaching them to respect your leadership, creating a loving, close bond and a trusting, respectful relationship between you and your dogs.
I will help you become the “leader of your pack” so that you can enjoy your dog, and your dog will not have to spend its life being yelled at, penned up, left outside, or surrendered to a shelter. I use dog-friendly, non-food-based and non-physical methods (no shock collars or harsh methods ever!). My goal is for your dog to love and respect you, not fear you, control you, or create chaos in your home. I will work with you in your home to address such issues as aggression, barking, housebreaking, separation anxiety, jumping up, nipping/biting, pulling on the leash, chewing/destructive behavior, sibling rivalry, and much more. I can help you with ANY BREED, ANY AGE, ANY ISSUE!
From puppy nipping to full adult aggression, whatever the behavioral issue, we will ind a solution through a one-on-one behavioral plan! When I work with you, I'll teach you how to correct your dog's obedience issues and communicate to your dog by using only body language and voice tones which is essentially how they communicate to each other. (It's really an amazing and proven technique!)
I do in-home, private dog behavioral and dog obedience training because that is where we can get the most attention from the dog, they are more relaxed and it's where most problems occur. I work with you to develop a custom-tailored dog behavior training program that suits you and your dog’s relationship, your lifestyle, your schedule and your goals. I love helping prepare your dog for a new baby, instead of being nervous, be excited. When appropriate, my dogs (Bodi and now Kayla) assist when we need them from distraction to dealing with dog aggression or leaning to come when called when off leash.
There is nothing more important to me than improving the lives of dogs and their owners and attempting to eliminate the abuse, abandonment, and euthanasia of dogs. So please, reach out! I am available 7 days a week (evenings too) to work around my clients’ hectic schedules and to allow time for the whole family to be involved.
About Your San Francisco Dog Trainer
On a personal note, fate is the reason I am one of the Bark Busters Master Dog Trainers. I feel lucky to have moved to Marin in 1987 and have had several successful retail business establishments, but something was missing. I loved dogs, longed to work with dogs and to make a difference in their lives. I have rescued, fostered and adopted dogs (most recently, Kayla - now a 10 month old bundle of energy golden retriever). Prior to her, was Jake. Ah Jake. When I rescued Jake, he appeared to be sweet and very attached. He had so many issues. He was a good-natured, happy.dog as long as a bird didn’t fly too close, or someone wasn’t riding a bike/or skateboard down the street, or I didn’t leave him alone…ever! When I would leave to go to work, he would chew on everything, including most of my furniture. He managed to chew a hole in my front door and one wall. I then started to take him everywhere with me. And then I left him for a few days with a “babysitter” and he ate the car! I was at my “end”. He was stressed and now so was I. I loved Jake very much; he was such a sweet, mellow dog while I was around. I knew I had to do something to help him with his dog behavior problem. I re-read books, took classes, practiced certain dog behavior techniques that I had heard and learned about, but wasn’t happy with what a lot of the “professional dog trainers” recommended. I even sent him to “boot camp” for 4 weeks. After much time, money and patience, I was able to help Jake get past some of his anxiety issues. Throughout the whole process, however, I kept wishing that there was something more I could do. And as time went on, his issues changed. He was always a challenge. I kept wishing there was a better method – I wasn’t getting through to him and it was taking so long. It was so frustrating!
Then one day an old friend now living in Colorado called and happened to mention Bark Busters. She absolutely loved the program and raved about the dog training system she hired for her dog. I immediately looked into it and was blown away by how these methods worked. It seemed so simple – and it made so much sense. I saw the dramatic results with Jake in his ability to turn over the “pack leadership role” to me. He started to relax , listen, and life became so much easier and fun. He didn’t need to protect me anymore.
I am passionate about dogs, and if I could make a positive change in my life with these techniques, I knew I could make a difference in yours. I decided to participate by opening my own franchise and starting my lifelong dream of earning my living by working with dogs. I went through the Bark Busters extensive hands-on dog training program in Colorado, returned 3 years later for the Master Behavioral Therapists training and have never looked back. Now, 11 years later, yearly training seminars, certified in Pet CPR & First Aid, Certified AKC Canine Good Citizens Evaluator #86912, and 1hundreds of other Bark Buster Franchisees to learn and work with, I have the opportunity to work with you and your family members to have the relationship you are looking for.

how we can help you and your dog
The Bark Busters Home Dog Training Methods helps solve dog behavior issues such as aggression towards people or other animals
- Cure embarrassing habits like barking, jumping up on people, scratching & whining at doors or inappropriate toileting.
- Create an obedient dog or puppy that will happily walk on the lead without tugging, sit or stay on command, and come immediately when called.
- Set off-limit areas for your dog.
- Reduce the stress of separation anxiety without the need for sedatives or drugs.
We teach you to communicate with your pet.
Blah, blah, blah, bad dog! blah blah. Do you think your dog isn't listening to you? Maybe you're simply not speaking his language. You may have heard of dog whisperer or dog listener techniques. The Bark Busters dog training method is based on the way dogs communicate with each other and how they learn from older, more important dogs in the pack. This is what makes our dog training unique and effective.
Why do we train in your home?
Your dog lives with a family, in a home. This is where he misbehaves most often so this is where training is most effective. Dogs learn by association. Bark Busters teaches your dog to listen in the home environment. If he does not listen at home, he will not listen outside your territory.
Training in your home is a one-on-one system without the distraction of other dogs or the stress of being sent away for training.
Of course, where you are experiencing problems outside the home such as pulling on the lead or dog aggression, we will set up controlled training situations in the park or wherever is most practical.
