Home Dog Training in Denver, Colorado!

Welcome. I am Scott Schwab, your Bark Busters Dog Trainer and Dog Behavioral Therapist in Denver. I have had the privilege to successfully train nearly 10,000 dogs since I joined Bark Busters in 2004.

I love working with my clients. I’ve also earned my reputation with some of the top veterinary hospitals in Greater Denver because of the success I have had partnering with pet parents on some of the toughest dog issues, like aggression and sibling rivalry, where other trainers have failed. I know I can help you and your relationship with your dog.

I am passionate about dog training. Everyday I get to see unruly, willful, and defiant dogs transform into responsive, attentive, curious, calm, and loving pups. The relationship becomes more and more positive and dog owners are relieved and less stressed. I look forward to working with you and your dog.

We train dog owners not dogs. The reason your dog is misbehaving is because he is confused. Not only can he not figure out what you are saying, but he is vying with you to be “Top Dog.” Once he/she knows you will keep him safe, he can relax and relinquish his guarding behaviors to you.

Communication. We do what no other dog trainers can do. We teach you to speak to your dog in a language he/she understands, one that comes naturally to canines. We don’t resort to shock collars or clickers. Instead, we develop a one-on-one plan to overcome your dog’s specific issues that is humane and positive and uses voice tones and body language.

Immediate Results. Chances are you have been frustrated for awhile, so you want to see some immediate changes in your dog’s behavior. The Bark Busters training method is fast, easy, fun, and effective.

We guarantee our results for the lifetime of your dog, a result unheard of in this industry.

Denver Client Reviews

See what our clients have to say

We hired Scott from Bark Busters for help training our dog "Chacho". We needed help with loose leash walking, doggie manners/boundaries, repetitive commands and separation anxiety. Scott was able to determine it was not truly separation anxiety but immaturity and boredom. As for the other issues we have seen a complete turn around. Chacho is not yet perfect, but the difference is incredible. Recently we took a trip to a relatives house and Chacho was a dream. We no longer fear walking past a squirrel or another dog as Chacho looks to us for his guidance. No longer do we worry about him bouncing out the door when we open it to get in groceries or to go outside, and he is a gentleman when guests arrive.

His method of teaching is cruelty free and does not involve the use of e collars or chokers.

Although it is a bit pricey the lifetime guarantee and the results are well with it. My wife and I would and will recommend Scott to others for their pet obedience needs.
We love Scott!

He is super nice and easygoing. As first-time puppy owners, he helped us with all of the basics and even had a Zoom prep call with us before we picked up our puppy!

Scott has tons of brilliant advice for owning, housing, training and feeding dogs. He is truly a Jedi master of all things dog.

Keep in mind that you need to be proactive to engage Scott for ongoing training--regular "check-ins" are not part of his routine, which he explained to us before we hired him.

We can't recommend Scott enough. Watching him work with our pup is truly amazing and the results have been worth it.
Scott is a literal dog whisperer! His training is unique in that he teaches you to speak their language so they actually understand and therefore respond to the commands! It just works. Scott is also very professional and committed to your dog’s success.
I was feeling a hopeless about my dogs behavior and had no idea how to correct it. Scott helped me understand my dogs language and how to communicate with him. He had me in tears seeing the progress my fur baby made within an hour! I am looking forward to a better relationship with my dog!
I have never seen such a quick response to training before, within an hour both pups were behaving noticeably better. My level of stress about having people in my house with my territorial pup is way lower.
We contacted Scott when our dog began having aggression towards her brother and other dogs when it came to resource guarding. Scott was completely amazing and has truly given us the tools to not only manage the problem but to actively improve both of our dogs’ behavior. He talked us through his methods even before we had to officially hire him, giving us all of the information upfront. We would highly recommend letting Scott and his team improve your dogs behavior!
I have been having reactivity issues with my shepherd mix Gizmo that have been worsening for the last few months. I have tried another dog training company in Denver in the past who came to my house and tried to sell me expensive e-collars and prong collars, without actually helping my dog's behavior. So, I was hesitant to spend money for another dog trainer, but Scott and BarkBusters has been worth every penny! What I love about Scott's approach is he teaches you how to communicate with your dog, and how to understand your dog's behavior so you can correct it. He has helped me build a new relationship with Gizmo, one in which he respects, trusts, and listens to me. The training tools that Scott provides (at no extra cost) are simple, easy to use, and cruelty free. After even just ONE session with Scott I could already see a change in Gizmo! Any dog parent of a reactive dog knows how difficult it is and how much anxiety it can produce (for both you and your pup), and for the first time in months I felt hopeful that change would actually be possible. So far Gizmo has made amazing strides with the help of Scott - he no longer leash pulls, he no longer has ball aggression, he doesn't bark when he hears a knock on the door, and his reactivity towards dogs on walks has significantly decreased. It is because he doesn't feel the need to be scared or protective, since he now views me as the pack leader when previously it was the other way around. I have a totally new understanding of relationship dynamics and dog behavior, which has been the key to having successful results so quickly. I am eternally grateful to Scott for what he's done for Gizmo and I, and it is so awesome knowing that if I ever need anything he is just a phone call away and will come for follow-up visits as needed for life!
Scott is a great trainer.
Our dog Velma is a rescue that is anxious and all bark no bite. When we first got her, should would bark her head off at every new person that came into the house, absolutely no way to calm her.
Since working with Scott, we have learned several tips and tricks to get her to be more calm and welcoming towards guests. We have been able to have little get togethers and family stay over with no problems now.

Before, on walks, it was so hard to walk her. She was nonstop barking and whining and we could not get control of her. It made me not want to walk her at all.
Now walking has been so much easier. There is still a lot work that needs to be done with walks but walks are no longer a battle. I know what to do in order to gain that control and her focus, making the walk stress free.

We appreciate Scott’s support during this entire journey. With this lifetime training, we know we have the support from Scott.
Scott immediately helped with my dog’s separation anxiety. I couldn’t leave the house without her and within three days she stopped barking/crying at the door when I left.. she obeys me and realizes that I am in charge :) thank you Scott! You changed our lives!
Scott is a great trainer! My dog Brinkley is very anxious and I am not a consistent trainer. Scott is very patient and gives us a lot of helpful practices to correct Brinkley’s behavior and help alleviate his anxiety! We have had a handful of training sessions with Scott and Brinkley responds really well to him. He has taught me more about dogs body language and the way they think which has helped a ton since I interpret my dogs feelings as I would a human which of course is not the case. Huge help and cannot recommend him enough!

Our dog, Mojo, is for the most part a good and well behaved dog, but he has had issues with aggression toward other dogs and barking at anyone outside the house (from inside the house) among other bad behaviors. Basically, he is very territorial and protective of his space and "things". We introduced another dog to our home and things have been very stressful, with us trying to manage space and location of the dogs 24/7. Scott came earlier this week and a miracle happened. I don't want to exaggerate, but it seems like that to us. Using the techniques and training Scott taught us, we have already seen a significant difference in just a couple of days.

As an example, one of his favorite things in the world is to sit at the edge of our backyard, which is adjacent to a hiking trail up to Green Mountain. Any time a person (with or without a dog) is walking on the trail, he barks incessantly. We have tried to get him to stop for years and often walk down to him from the house, but nothing worked. Yesterday morning he was barking, from his spot, at a couple of dogs being walked on the trail. Our deck is at least 30 yards away and 2 stories up from where he sits. I used the techniques Scott showed us and Mojo instantly stopped barking, sat down, looked at me and waited until I "released" him, but did not start barking again. I was shocked. I know it will take a lot of repetition and time to completely retrain him, but we know we did the right thing bringing in Scott to help us.
I was skeptical at first, but became a believer! Scott and the trainees that attended the first and second session were super helpful and able to answer all of our questions. Astro is earning an A+ for his work and we are thoroughly enjoying his success. We can now enjoy a walk with Astro, we are all more relaxed. The training works as long as you commit and allow yourself to enjoy the time with your pet. We are super appreciative of the work Scott has done to help us.
I was a skeptic for sure. After our first session, I was a believer! We now enjoy time with Astro on walks. He responds to corrections immediately and the frequency of behavior is decreasing each walk. The follow up conversations and second meeting with Scott proved to be very helpful. We were able to ask any questions and get immediate guidance that had a positive impact on our training. Astro is getting an A+ and we are super proud of his progress. We will continue to practice and enjoy the time together. Thanks so much to Scott and his trainees that have joined him for each visit.
I feel like we have a different dog living in our house. Since the initial visit with Scott she is a calmer, more relaxed version of herself and we love it. Even our friends and neighbors have noticed and commented on how positively different our WillaBee is!

The training and reasoning behind the training just clicked for our dog and us. It just works and it works almost immediately.
We have the tools to work with her everyday. We see remarkable improvement in distance control, barking, walking/back leash training, jumping up, and attention seeking behavior.

Our household is much happier since Bark Busters.
Scott has been helping us with a reactive Doberman who also has very high anxiety. After seeing her get worse we did private and group training classes but those used shock collars and we didn’t know then that we were making things so much worse and more traumatic for her. We then tried one of the top rated animal behaviorists; but they were the polar opposite. The more we paid the less they did. I felt hopeless and knew we would lose her if we had anymore biting incidents with her. I found Bark Busters and was immediately drawn to the fact that they do not use shock collars, clickers, treats or any things else you have been taught to keep your pup in line. The lady on the phone was fantastic and answered all my questions and told me about Scott. I honestly was surprised he was not working with famous people at how good he looked on paper. Scott came to our home and was so calm and patient. He listened and empathized; but then he got to work. The exercises we did during our FIRST session were already making a complete difference. He helped us with exercises and guided us as needed and left us with tips, tricks and tools to use until his next visit. He also made himself readily available if we were in crisis or needed help of any kind. I have had too many nights crying thinking I am going to have to put my Doberman baby down and now I feel such excitement and a newfound sense of confidence. Scott is honest and straightforward and will not tell you what you want to hear. He understands our crisis and how close we were to giving up. Scott is an all around professional and while he is our last ditch effort to save our dog, I full confidence that he will help us keep her happy, healthy and safe for a long time to come. Thanks Scott and thanks Bark Busters.
Scott was everything we could have ever asked for and more. Seemingly out of nowhere our dogs had this intense sibling rivalry. They'd be best friends one moment and out for blood the next. It was awful and everything we tried failed. We hated the idea of just having to keep our dogs in separate rooms, constantly monitor their interactions, or worst case scenario, get rid of one of them. Enter Scott - literally the same day he came out for the first training everything was 10x better than before. He gave us the tools to actually transform the entire dynamic of our household - more than half a year later and we've been able to keep the peace. Thank you, Scott!!!!
We are SO happy with the results from Bark Busters training. We have two German Shepherds and between the two of them we have struggled with almost every behavioral issue you can think of. Scott took the time to ask questions about the dogs and our lifestyle then explained how small things we were doing were enabling our dog’s behavior. He showed us how to switch the roles in the household making us the leader of the pack. We instantly saw positive changes in our dog’s behavior and continue to see improvements with each day we practice. Could not be more thankful for Scott and Bark Busters!
Scott came out to help me with teaching my wonderful pitbull, Kibeth, not to chase my cats, to understand that I'm in charge, and to walk on a loose leash. He was so good with her. He got her to calm down as soon as he walked in, got her to understand what she should be doing immediately, and taught me what to do. We just did our first walk since the loose leash training and she has never been so well behaved on a walk. I've been able to stop her going after my cats in mid chase. She listens to me very well in the house and our relationship has improved so much. I love Scott's methods because I did not want to use a training method that would hurt or scare her. All of the methods are gentle and easy for me to learn.
Review from our dog.... "Hi, my name is Mister Breakfast and my life, is kinda crazy. I'm a 100lbs XL American Bully and at only 1 year old, I have no idea how big I really am. While I love to snuggle and slobber, I also love barking at humans and dogs that walk by our fence. On top of that, I don't really have any sense of personal space when my humans have friends over and often times when my humans take me on walks, I tend to be a little protective of them. Scott visited our home and helped me learn that my humans are in control and I should take my que's from them. Scott taught my humans a few techniques to help me feel more comfortable with passerby's, ways to control my excitement when friends come to visit, and most recently how to stay calm, collected, and submissive during our neighborhood walks. Now that we've moved to Glenwood Springs, my humans can call Scott over the phone and they even use some futuristic communication magic that makes Scott's face show up on my humans handheld box thingy's. I love working with Scott because he teaches my humans how to communicate with me so that I can be the bestest boy ever. Thanks Scott and Bark Busters!!!"
Scott came out with a class about 4 weeks ago. Prior to that visit I was at my wits end with a newly adopted dog, Tony. He was large, and had a lot of phobias. During the first visit I learned how to get Tony into the car. Scott showed me 3 times, and I was able to get Tony in the car the first visit! We worked on claiming my space and walking on a leash, respectfully matching my direction. I called Scott for a “tune up” and he exceeded my expectations … again. Worth the money, 100%. Scott, thank you. I now have a well behaved dog. Actually, the most well trained dog I have ever owned. Tony is in his forever home. Thanks to you. ❤️
We first hired Scott around 2 months ago and the difference in our dog Ava has been night and day. Ava had been showing signs of aggression towards both dogs and people, Scott has since given us tools to manage both areas of aggression and given us tools to handle so many other scenarios as well. Ava was never particularly good on leash and now she can do 40 minute walks without leaving our side. Scott explains to you what your dog is likely feeling from their point of view and is able to advise dog owners on how best to approach situations without ever making the owners feel as though they had screwed up or were bad dog owners (this is not something that we can say about a good portion of trainers that we have talked to). Scott is very flexible, able to meet with people on the afternoons and weekends in their own home which is incredibly helpful as me and my fiancée are both working full time. I would and have recommended Scott to anyone who is wanting to train their dog. I and so thankful that we have Scott’s help while training Ava.
We signed up with BB a fwe years ago and were very happy with the service/ training. Once COVID hit, we lost some ground with changing employment and remote work. Otis needed a tune up! and so did we :) We purchased the BB package primarily because it was 'lifetime' and we had a young pup. I don't remember the exact date we started, but it was a few years ago. We called our trainer, Scott, and within about 20 minutes we were back on track. Highly recommend both the trainer and the lifetime engagement.
Scott is a miracle worker! Our dog has unlimited energy, likes to jump on anyone that walks through the door and was a terrible walker. Within literally minutes, Scott put an end to all of that! Well worth the investment.
OMG Scott is AMAZING! I initially sought out a trainer as my elderly dog who is 14 years old, who was used as a bait dog before I adopted her, is aggressive when she sees other dogs. Like seriously, she can spot them from a mile away and will even growl, jump, and lunge when she sees them on TV. I contacted Bark Busters-Scott, as I was DESPERATE. We could not go on one normal walk EVER, without her growling at other dogs and wanting to lunge, jump and pull on the leash every time she spotted one from far away. While on walks I can only describe it as her walking me, instead of the other way around. When I called to set up an appointment for her, I was told Scott could take me but not until the end of July, and admittedly I was disappointed as I was just SO DESPERATE for help with her. When he was told of our situation he was able to move his schedule and booked me for the 3rd of June instead. Within the first 10 minutes I noticed a huge improvement, not only with my dog Jaz, but mainly with me as I am not usually a very authoritative person. He helped me SO QUICKLY after starting our session. I liked that we practiced in doors before even heading outside to try to attempt to go on a walk. I was FLOORED once we walked outside and she didn't even bat an eye at other dogs while walking at the lake. My jaw dropped and i'm pretty sure its still on the floor, because my dog has never EVER been as attentive and in sync with me throughout the four years I've had her. I am excited to work on homework with her, because if she was able to listen, stand by my side, and not lunge, growl, pull on the leash within 20 minutes of the session, I cannot imagine what consistent practice will do. I have nothing but great things to say about Scott. I am floored!!! If you are on the fence about it, it is worth EVERY PENNY and you should call immediately to book their services!
