Welcome! I am a Master Dog Trainer and Dog Behavioral Therapist. My experience working with several hundreds of dogs will help me help you become the family leader your dog needs and deserves. By using my dog-friendly, non-food based techniques (no shock collars or harsh methods ever!), I can help you live a happier life together with your dog.

My goal is for your dog to love and respect you. I can help you with dog training and puppy training needs for dogs of any breed, any age, any issue.

I can help you with your new puppy, an adult dog that you’ve had for years, or getting a newly adopted dog of any age to settle nicely into your home. You’ll be amazed at what your dog will be able to do once you learn to communicate with your canine companion in a way your dog understands.

About Ben

Dogs are truly man's best friend and my dogs have been mine since I was a child (until of course, I met Kelly, and we celebrated our marriage in the Summer of 2022!) I'm an avid outdoorsman and love hunting and fishing. I wholeheartedly believe that dogs should be cared for and trained with love and compassion. Success in any relationship is based on positive communication, and this is totally true of canine owner and dog.

About Jodie

My journey with Bark Busters started when I was a client myself. Seeing the methods and results of this training inspired me to become a dog behavioral therapist as well. I started my career with dogs when I was 15 years old at a local kennel/daycare here in Maryland, along with being a local trusted pet sitter. Eventually, I moved to the retail side of pet care up until becoming a full time dog trainer and behavioral therapist with Bark Busters. My passion has always been helping others live happier lives which I was able to pursue for many years simultaneously in the medical field. Now, I get to follow that passion to helping you live a happier life with your dogs. I am so excited to get started working with you!

Just had our first training session with Ben where he began by explaining how we needed to communicate with our dogs. I must say I was super nervous about this experience because I knew most of my dogs bad habits have been encouraged by me and I didn't want to be guilted by that. However, Ben was kind in telling us a few simple ways we can communicate with our dogs to break their separation anxiety and aggressive barking. After the initial conversation he made sure to explain the actual training that would happen before having us start. Throughout the training he was very encouraging and made sure that we were on track with what was expected of us. I am extremely hopeful for the first time that we will be able to live in harmony with our dogs.

Ben was very professional in training us on how to handle our two dogs. The dogs are different with one being reactive to sound and Ben outlined separate training plans for each dog with this key difference. We see immediate and continuing progress 3 days into the training plan with the younger dog. Our older dog will require more time with different goals in mind however even he is showing progress for us. We are looking forward to our continued training sessions

Jodie's expertise has been invaluable! We were seriously contemplating giving our 16 month old Weimaraner back to the breeder or a rescue due to possession aggression and nipping at friends and family. We were at our wits end! I spent a long time trying to find a trainer that concentrated on behavioral modification instead of obedience training. Ben and Bark-Busters absolutely fit the bill. I had excellent success previously with an alpha rottweiler-mix using what I learned from watching and reading Caesar Milan. That was 15 years ago and it seems I had lost my knack and was unable to take my new rescue (3 years old) on a calm walk. With some additional tools from Ben it's working beautifully. The basic approach using body language and calm energy are the same as Milan's approach. The new tools include different vocalizations, a different training collar, and a squirt bottle instead of the taps that Caesar used. Also by starting with indoor exercises - such as claiming space, food and doors --, both my dog and I were more in-sync before moving outside to walking in a more distracting environment.

It's now day-two after the first session with Ben and my dog and I are walking calmly together. Inside behavior is also improving dramatically.

I really like that I'll be able to call or email Ben as I have questions or run into problems and as we advance to more difficult areas.

I am so glad that I called Bark Busters. My dog started barking at dogs when we moved to our new neighborhood, which made walking her very stressful for all of us. Ben explained why she was reactive and taught us how to communicate with her in a way that she immediately understood.

Within the first visit, we walked her and ran into her top nemesis without issue! We are so excited for what’s to come as we learn how to communicate with her more effectively and she becomes more and more calm. She is already so much calmer and happier.

Life changing! I contacted Bark Busters because I have two mini Golden Doodles (one, who is six and very well-behaved and one who is one and not so much). Initially, I had an in-depth phone consultation to share my issues and my goals for my dogs. Next, Ben came to my home and taught and explained many of the Bark Busters’ methods. He modeled them and walked me through each step, until I felt confident and was doing things correctly. After, he left, I immediately began practicing and applying the methods with my dogs- with IMMEDIATE results!!!! It was unbelievable to me.

The next day I took my dogs to visit my almost 80 year-old mom. That was another reason I wanted help, was so the dogs wouldn’t jump on her and bruise/cut her frail skin. No one likes to be jumped on by a dog, much less two. Anyway, I got to her house, and they both started toward her. I said the magic sound (that Ben had practiced with me) and both dogs stopped right away and walked away from her. Later, one of my mom’s friend’s visited and both dogs started to bark. Again, I said the magic sound and had to apply one additional method I was taught, and both dogs just sat down on either side of me. They sat there comfortably and didn’t bother my mom or her friend.

Since then, things have been awesome with both dogs. My dogs seem much calmer now. Ben, came again a few weeks later and taught me how to walk my dogs on a leash without them pulling me. He also provided wonderful advice/suggestions on my dogs’ nutrition, thunder anxiety for one and separation anxiety for the other. Knowing that Ben is just a phone call/text away brings me so much peace! Can’t thank him enough for all that he taught and practiced with me!

I got a cute puppy during covid that grew into a 105 lb bundle of nerves. After a previous failed training stint I decided to try Bark Busters. Ben was amazing! Omg Ben the best coach!! He amazing he knows how to teach us how to teach our Annie. Today July 19 was are first time meeting Ben. Ben already got us teaching how to talk to our dog Annie. Annie is already doing so much better. Walking her was a drag pulling and barking. Now, she walks when we walk and don't have to pull her. No more Jumping all over the door and barking at birds and squirrels. Dogs do learn fast with the right coach.

Absolutely the best outcome that we could have asked for. The first session both of our boys completely did a 180 with their behavior. Ben was so personable it felt like talking to a friend and he gave great advice. He took the time to answer all of my questions (which there were many). After this first session I feel like there is hope for my boys, mainly my older dog Joey who struggles with some aggression issues. What can I say…….. Mr. Ben was nothing short of amazing today. For the first time in years, I feel I have control over my dog. Prior to the training, I didn’t think I could walk Cosmo with him pulling me up and down the neighborhood. After my session with Ben, I knew I made a great decision. I’ve never felt like I had a handle on my dogs or their behavior, and it would easily overwhelm me. However, understanding how dogs think and why they do what they do, was really instrumental in allowing me to grasp what I need to do for my dogs to understand me.
