Welcome! My name is Karen Briggs, dog trainer and dog behavioral therapist for Bark Busters Home Dog Training in Greater Olympia.

I live in Olympia with my husband and our well-loved black lab, Pebbles. I was raised in Edmonds, WA and am a proud WSU graduate. Before joining Bark Busters, I had a financial planning firm for 30 years. During this time, I developed the teaching skills to communicate complex information to my clients in plain English -  making concepts clear and understandable. I made sure that my clients always felt comfortable asking any question and I hope I conveyed to them how much I cared about them and their families, always putting their interests first. I have always had a dog. I absolutely love dogs!

I discovered Bark Busters during a conversation with a friend, who marveled at how successful her Bark Busters training results had been for nearly 20 years, and with dogs for whom countless other training methods had all failed. She experienced personal success with dogs who had bitten other dogs and/or people, barked incessantly, pulled nonstop on the leash, jumped on everyone at the front door, and many other issues. After meeting her Bark Busters dog trainer and seeing the results for myself, I became very excited about being able to help Olympia dogs and their human families achieve similar same results!

And to show you how to communicate effectively with your dog in natural dog language, so that not only will your dog then understand the rules of the house and what is expected of them, but will also dramatically increase the pace of their learning, while building a strong bond of trust. Your dog's job is to be loved, cuddled, and cared for, but also to follow your families rules and be a well-mannered dog. A well-behaved dog can bring limitless love and happiness to you and your family, and I want to help you achieve this dynamic and will be there for you every step of the way.

Dog-friendly methods. Bark Busters uses positive, dog-friendly communication techniques that dogs instinctively understand.

We want your dog to trust you, never to fear you. Knowing how to communicate with your dog in dog language means no need for harsh or physical methods. No collars that pinch, shock or choke. No forcing a dog to do anything. No treats. Instead, we help you train your dog’s brain so that your dog thinks, and then makes good choices. This makes for long-lasting results and a trusting and respectful relationship with your dog and it typically speeds up the education process. Training exercises are quick, easy, and fun.

In-home training. Dogs learn best in a familiar, comfortable environment, free of outside distractions and disruptions. Training is one-on-one and is provided in the comfort of your home, where dogs are less stressed. This means that we can focus on the issues and they learn very quickly.

It's also important for you to know how to control your dog in "real life" situations. When you and your dog are ready we may also do training outside, and/or in higher-distraction environments (such as a busy sidewalk or a park with foot traffic).

Any age, any breed, any problem. Because all dogs speak the same language, our dog training system works for any breed, any age, any issue. In fact, Bark Busters was initially founded to help people whose dogs behavioral problems had them in danger of being abandoned or euthanized.
