Welcome. I am Ryan O'Connor your Bark Busters Dog Trainer and Dog Behavioral Therapist in San Mateo County.

As an animal lover, and now a certified Bark Busters dog trainer and dog behavioral therapist, I can't wait to meet you and your pup. I can help you to live a happier life together with your dog using Bark Busters effective, humane, and efficient dog training methods.

I moved to San Francisco from North Carolina to join the Bark Busters Northern California team in 2023. I have 5 years of teaching experience, as well as training for the last 3.

I found my passion for dog training after I rescued a fantastic pit-dalmation mix from a local shelter, Ghost, who had a very unfortunate upbringing before I found him. The patience and dedication to his training, and the amazing gratification I got from bringing him back from a sad, abused puppy, to the loving happy dog he is today is what continues to drive me to help others find the same peace with their dogs.

Together we will work towards creating a lasting relationship between you and your dog that is mutually loving, respectful, and safe - training both you and your dog to understand each other. We will focus on learning to better communicate using dog's natural skills, and learning techniques to communicate your needs and boundaries. Once mastered at home, we'll work on behaviors that reflect outside the home. I look forward to working with you and your furry companions!

I can't recommend Ryan highly enough. The difference in my dog before and after our session was like night and day. Petie was having a hard time with aggression, both on leash and off. I was afraid I was going to have to give him up, because I had tried other trainers, but the behavior never trained. Treat training, shock collars, you name it. Then Ryan showed me that it was ME. Bark Busters has been a major help to us. We rescued 2 puppies and did not know where to begin training. As it turned out we needed to be trained first. The first thing I learned is dogs can pick up on your anxiety. I had to learn to speak calmly so I would not confuse the dogs.
The basic training for the dogs took about a week and now we are moving on to more advanced commands.

Impressed with the quick results that I saw on day one. I had my rescue dog Pixel for four months. He was extremely timid and would hide from everyone including me. He would also snap at my girlfriend when she would try to approach him. So we called Bark Busters and booked an appointment right away. It was very convenient to have a dog trainer come to my place of residence. The trainer explained the reasons behind his aggression and came up with a lesson plan tailored to his temperament and personality. My dog is very reactive and gets startled at any little noise in my house, especially with the mail man or anyone coming near the door. She also gets triggered by certain people and other dogs outside on walks. Dalila taught me so much about my dog, most importantly, how to read her body language and get her attention when she gets distracted. Training has definitely been a work in progress but I now feel a lot better handling her indoors and more equipped to deal with stressful situations outdoors. Thank you Dalila!!!

Dalila at Bark Busters has been such a a big help in understanding our dogs tendencies and bad behavior. We came to her in a time of need where one of our dogs was bullying and attacking our other dog and we couldn't find the cause of what was triggering our aggressive dog. After our first session with Dalila, we went through some exercises to establish ground rules in the house and both of our dogs responded right away. I highly recommend Dalila to any dog owner that needs help with dog on dog aggression, basic obedience and having an understanding of how to properly communicate with your dog.

I've had a few training sessions with Dalila and experienced so much progress under her direction. My pup has had a lot of trouble with fear and reactivity to outside stimulus. Dalila was able to work backwards from the identified issues and create bite sized instructions/ exercises that worked seamlessly into my day so I could train my pup consistently. My pup gets super anxious with humans she is not familiar with and just after 1 session with Dalila she already felt so comfortable with her. Dalila makes training fun and my pup was even sad to see her leave after our session; she really gave us the tools we needed to make life easier for both me and my dog.

Hi I just want to say that Delila Ortiz is amazing. I'm so thankful I found her. I recently adopted an incredible dog who unfortunately also exhibited some aggression under certain circumstances. I was scared that there wasn't a path forward with him. Within literally minutes of coming to my house, Delila pinpointed the issue (fear and insecurity) and had me run through some exercises. I can't begin to say how much I recommend Bark Busters! Dalila was amazing, She came to my home and helped transform Leah my 2 yr old pug. My issues were constant barking and rushing at the front door when visitors would come over.
Dalila gave us exercises to start immediately and within the first week we saw a significant difference, by the end of week two our home has become peaceful and we can walk out the door without her rushing us.

Dalila is a gifted dog trainer. She has been working with my husband and me and our 4 year-old mini labradoodle for several months. I recently adopted my 3 year old Labrador Mix, Dalia, and she was very reactive and pulled my leash so much! It was really embarassing and I needed some help. Dalila is such an amazing trainer! She not only talked me through the exercises and training but she also explained in detail Dalia's body language and why she was acting the way she was. Our fur baby Precious had really bad door manners. Anytime visitors would come to the house, she would bark non stop and be very anxious. This made having anyone over such a production. I was very much impressed with the way Dalila's training Milla from the very first moment, treats free, with very soft voice and tone. Milla was happy to follow her instructions with tail wagging drastically and bud shaking. Amazing and funny! She has improved her behavior quite some after 2 classes, has been listening to my instructions got from Dalila.
Though Milla is a small puppy, with her breed's nature, she is very hyper, barking, jumping, very anxious with separation, these were the headaches I had been handling with no better solution. I sent her to a training center not far, was not satisfied with no improvement after several private classes but treats feeding nonstop each time. So, I started to search for a better training facility, glad I found Bark Busters, especially got Dalila.
Milla still has some way to go in getting her behavior under control, with lifetime warranty that Bark Busters offers and Dalila's training, I am very confident she will be a perfect loving girl. Thanks a lot Bark Busters and Dalila.

I was blown away by the results Dalila taught me with my puppy. I had carefully researched all the companies around and Bark Busters was the only one that didn't use shock collars, treats or negative reinforcement of some kind. That checked my first box. Secondly they had great reviews. I had a dog that passed away and I thought I knew how to train a dog but this adorable puppy Jaz and I couldn't get on the same page. In fact, we couldn't even find the paper together! Dalila helped us on basic obedience, uncontrollable barking and jumping all over visitors when they came to the door. Very impressed after about an hour of our first training session with Dalila. What she was able to teach my puppy to do was incredible! Right before my eyes, my puppy was paying attention and doing everything I was asking of her. The training doesn't involve treats, harsh punishment, or gimmicks. It was just communicating in a way my pup understands. The purpose of the first session was to teach me how dogs communicate, learn, and act around humans and other animals. It was quite eye opening. Basically, teaching me how to communicate and why she responds SO WELL to it. Simply put, this training WORKS :) It is like no other training style I've heard of and the crazy thing is, it's natural. I'm on the first full day and the difference in my puppy is amazing! If I didn't see it happening, I wouldn't believe it.

Our trainer -- Dalila -- came into our home today for our first dog training lesson with Miller. To say the results were instantaneous would be no exaggeration. The techniques she teaches are simple, yet effective and both the dog and I were able to catch on immediately. Miller and I were able to enjoy each other's company again, when I had almost given up. Miller would bark uncontrollably at the door and would lunge and growl at other dogs on walks. I knew she needed exercise but she did not like being on leash. Dalila taught me how to take the leadership role so she would walk calmly by my side. Dalila is a miracle worker!

Bones was the perfect dog -- when he was sleeping! Otherwise, she would bark and jump at whoever came to the door. I could barely control him and it got to the point where I didn't want to have people over. I also had trouble controlling Bones on leash. He would pull me along and bark and growl at other dogs. I saw a major difference in just one lesson with Dalilah. She taught me a new way to interact with my dog so Bones listens. Now Bones and I practice everyday and both of us are doing great.
