Welcome. I am Jef Evans, your certified Bark Busters dog trainer and behavioral therapist from Tampa to Spring Hill. Growing up in Florida, my siblings and I had all the pets - dogs, cats, gerbils, fish, and even newts. As an adult, I have cared for some amazing rescues, from Great Danes to Shi Tzus. I look forward to helping you learn how to communicate with your awesome dog. We teach our clients how to train their dogs. Every dog is an individual and there is not a one size fits all course of action. Before starting on a program with our clients we spend time getting to know them, their dog(s), the situation, and their goals. Your thoughts, feelings and ideas are crucial to the process as is your commitment to practice daily the exercises that we will teach you.

Clear communication with your dog is a vital part of teaching your dog how to live happily in your home with your family. We will help you understand not only how your dog communicates with you, but also how to communicate in a way that is easy for your dog to understand. As with any relationship, clear communication is a key element.

Communicate with your dog. Puppies learn from their mothers and siblings how to live with dogs. They don’t teach puppies how to live with people. That’s up to us when we bring them home to live with us. We love helping people with their puppies and seeing them grow into great dogs.

Older dogs can have issues which can concern their families. We regularly help with issues of aggression, separation anxiety, or just teaching the basics of walking without pulling, or how to greet without jumping up. No matter what issues your dog(s) might have, Bark Busters can help. You can teach an old dog new tricks!

I am very happy that I chose Bark Busters. My dog, Rocket, is 8 years old, and I was a bit skeptical about him being trained. Firstly, and most important to me is a humane, non-shock training program.

Rocket has anxiety leaving the house: he doesn't want to walk far from the house; putting on his brakes usually, one house away. He's also anxious riding in the car.
Bark Busters' approach to training was different from what I expected - their six week program for Rocket is not only geared towards changing those behaviors, but to also help relieve him of some of his responsibilities (you'll understand if you reach out to them). We're teaching Rocket (and myself!) about boundaries, appropriate behavior and reactions.
Jef is very knowledgeable in this approach and I am definitely seeing results and am looking forward to our continued sessions and improvement!

Jef gave us the tools we needed in order to have stress free and peaceful walks around our neighborhood, whereas before, Star had pulled us down and even gotten away running after flying ducks. He helped us understand what Star's behavior means in human language, and he taught us how to speak in "dog's" language. This has worked splendidly. I wholeheartedly recommend Jef to anyone experiencing challenges with his/her fur baby. Jef is very friendly and professional. Jeff was absolutely amazing with Barkbusters! I have two red heelers and a mini aussie all from rescue that needed some help. I love how the training is set for the owners like myself to become a better pack leader for the dogs. A day after our first session and I am already seeing a difference in how to better communicate and have more relaxed, calm environment. Jeff was very informative and was absolutely great with my dogs as well. Especially Nezuko who is afraid of strangers she responded to him almost immediately. I would recommend Barkbusters any day!

Jef has been great at helping our dogs Brody and Shadow behave better! Brody and Shadow both grew up in single dog homes, and when Andy and I moved in together our dogs moved in together too. At first they tolerated each other though would both express signs of dominance at times. After about 1 year it grew into some more aggressive behavior towards each other. Since working with Jef, we have learned to better communicate with Brody and Shadow which has tremendously improved their aggression and overall behavior! My dog Luna was a mess. In fact, I thought about rehoming her until my lesson with Jef. He is like a dog whisperer, because Luna and I had been to group classes before and it didn't stick. The method Jef taught me makes sense because it is based on the way dogs naturally communicate. I like it because it doesn't involve shock or prong collars. Or treats. Most importantly, I saw immediate results. It does take consistency on your part, but that's easy. It helped with Luna's incessant barking, leash reactivity and horrible door manners. I would recommend Jef to anyone.

Jef is wonderful at training us!! Oh, and our dog Daisy. Prior to Working with Jef we called our dog “Crazy Daisy”. Now after only a few weeks/lessons Daisy is doing much better. We've been working with Jef for a few weeks and I'm so glad we found him; we had two dogs and recently rescued a 3rd. We needed help with the new addition - general socialization, manners, sibling rivalry, etc. I love that this training is not treat based - the things Jef has taught us have been easy to work into our every day lives which makes 'practicing' easy, and with 3 dogs, that's really important! The dogs showed immediate improvement in some big areas - like door control - which just tells me with more consistent training and work, we'll successfully tackle the other things where we'd like to see improvement (like recall). Looking forward to continuing to work with Jef!

After 1 meeting with Jef we were able to immediately apply new skills with our 7 year-old rescue. When I called to make the appointment with Bark Busters, I was in tears and ready to give up on our dog. We had our rescue for three months, who had been returned to the shelter from another family because of his severe separation anxiety. The shelter told us he wasn’t dog aggressive, however, he was in our dog-packed neighborhood. We were becoming “those people with that dog”. In our first meeting with Jef, he taught us how to communicate with our pup and how to be the pack leader. It worked! We saw results that day. With our continued practice, it continues to work. We had tried the “treat method” of behavior change, but it didn’t stick because no treats meant inconsistent performance. We have been practicing what we learned every day, every walk, and working with him. We have emailed with Jef a couple of times and even had 2 visits. We are only in 5 weeks into applying these new behaviors with our dog. In this short time, our dog is now one of the best leash walkers in the neighborhood! He used to bark at almost every dog and would lunge and pull towards them. Now, he almost never barks at another dog and looks to us for what to do. We went from extreme separation behavior where pup could not be left home alone for even 5 minutes (or even out of eyesight), to being alone in another room for 2.5 hours without panicking or destruction. After our second visit, Jef showed us how to refine what we had learned in the first to get even better results. We still have a ways to go, but our dog is happier and we are too! We haven’t given up on him because Jef gave us the tools, encouragement, and reinforcement to be the pack leader. Thank you Bark Busters for your humane methods and thank you Jef for your support.

Our Bark Busters trainer Jef Evans is outstanding! When we started with Jef, our 10 month old basset hound would not listen to me or my wife and was seeing herself as the leader of the house. We weren't even able to take her for a basic neighborhood walk. With our first in home lesson with Jef we saw immediate results. Jef is very patient with us as we learn his training tips for becoming better leaders, and as we get better our dog is getting better and better. Also, the I didn't think it was possible, but Jef's training does not use any treats at all or any pinch collars or any other devices which cause pain to your dog. We couldn't be happier with our results!

We have a puppy and his name is Milo. When he was about 9 months old we starting using Bark Busters to help train us on how best to work with him. Jef is our trainer and he is very knowledgeable and patient. I was amazed at how quickly Milo responded to Jef's training. It is all positive and I have to say it works. Our little guy still has a puppy brain and we need to continue to work with him to be the best behaved dog we know he can be. Through Jef's instruction we have much better control of Milo when we go on walks and also when people come to the house. We are working on getting him to not bark at the door or jump on our guest. We are also currently working on separation anxiety and getting Milo to be more independent and not be our "shadow". We have a monthly training schedule and also meet with Jef once a month to check on Milo's progress. The best part of signing up with Bark Busters is they are committed for the life of the dog.
