Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for your interest in Bark Busters and learning how I can help you with your dog. Let me just say “congratulations” on taking this first step - it’s often the hardest!
I can help you solve a problem, such as an unruly or destructive dog, or one with anxiety, aggression, or bad potty habits.
I can also help you to set your brand new puppy up for success in your home, by teaching him some puppy basics such as obedience, housebreaking, and the rules of your house.
In addition to any other specific training goals you have for your dog, we will work together to build a balanced relationship between you and your dog that is based on love, trust and respect. What could be better than that?
“I've spent thousands of dollars on training, yet THIS was the easiest and most effective program! I saw immediate results. My dog is like a different animal. She's calm and controlled. It could not be easier. I loved understanding how my dog thinks. It is simple, I saw immediate results so I want to practice more! Michelle is a wonderful coach. She encouraged me throughout.” ~ Susan P, Valley Cottage
“I was surprised to notice results within the first five minutes. The technique is to gain respect and that is so important and will be useful to my dog for the rest of his life. I feel with the training techniques, Michelle empowered me to train my dog and I feel my relationship with him will be so much better for the rest of his life.” ~ Jackie D, West Nyack
Be prepared to learn some new things about how your dog thinks and communicates and be ready to have some fun doing it! By the end of the first session most clients are going to see a big change in their dog’s behavior, and with follow-up practice those new behaviors will become new, better habits.
“Today's lesson was nothing short of remarkable, I could not believe with my own eyes how my animals refrained from inhaling all the snacks I threw on the floor, amazing is what it was. With guidance from Michelle McCarthy, I was able to train them not to charge out of the crate but wait to be asked out while in the sit position ... unbelievable! Coming when called and staying by my side was a new treat for me, they would never stay by my side on a daily basis, they would meander wherever and whenever, that was corrected in literally minutes. Michelle is our miracle worker, I would/will highly recommend her. Looking forward to future training. Thanks Michelle!” ~ Kim M, Warwick
This means that I would never have you do anything to your dog that I would not do to my own. The techniques are based on how dogs communicate with each other and are humane. We’re not going to do anything physical, or anything that will hurt your dog.
“It was really easy to follow once we were instructed in the right way. I could not believe that Roxy came to us with a few little training tips. It was better than training programs that I have heard of that use harsh techniques.” ~ Jessica D, Monroe
Over the last 13 years I have trained over 2,500 dogs, from Chihuahuas to Pit-Bulls to Great Danes, and everything in between! I have worked with rescues, pure-bred dogs, mutts, show-dogs – you name it. I love working with them all! I help clients get their 8 week old puppies started off on the right paw, as well as helping clients with older dogs get problem behaviors under control.
“You can teach an old dog new tricks! Our 9 yr old boxer was getting aggressive towards strangers both in and out of our yard and barking all of the time. He is a totally different dog after one session! It is like he quit his job as full time protector and is taking it easy now. The weight of the world is off his shoulders and he is relaxed. He is listening, attentive and responsive to our commands. I highly recommend Michelle and her techniques - she truly is a dog whisperer.” ~ Kristy E., Piermont
All of the training is done with you, in your home. After all, this is where you are experiencing behavioral problems, or having your puppy settle in. It is also where there are less distractions, so your dog can be more focused, relaxed and able to better learn and retain the things she is taught. On top of that, it is easier and more flexible for you – no running out to be somewhere else!
“Michelle McCarthy was a life saver. We decided that one Corgi puppy was not enough and decided to have two from the same litter. This brought on a lot of challenges from feeding to walking. Michelle was kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. We have been training with her now for 2 months and have seen a remarkable difference in our puppies. She is also available in a crisis. A few times I called with issues, and her prompt response and her help walked me through to correct the behavior. Truly a great experience!” ~ Annmarie U, Blauvelt
Let me tell you a little bit about how I got into this. As you might imagine, I’ve had a passion for dogs, and all animals, forever. I decided that I wanted to dedicate my career to helping animals and so decided to become a dog trainer. At that point I was in much the same place that you are right now. I was doing my research, looking at the different kinds of dog training philosophies that are out there and came across Bark Busters. And this just made sense! At its very core level it is about understanding and communicating with dogs in a natural way, in the way that they communicate with each other. I hadn’t found any other training technique out there that did this in this way and I just thought how cool! We really take the time together to understand your dog from his perspective and to learn to meet his needs in a way that makes sense to your dog! This is different and unique from any other training method that I have found. When we work together you will see how interesting this process is and how well it works with your dog’s natural way of seeing the world! It’s pretty awesome.
“Michelle is amazing! As soon as she came in our 2yr old hound Maddie knew change was coming. Michelle helped us communicate with our dog rather than yelling. Countless kids toys have now been saved and everyone is enjoying Maddie even more. We knew our adoption of Maddie was a blessing. Michelle has also been a blessing helping us to understand our dog's needs. We saw immediate change and couldn't be happier with our progress. I highly recommend Michelle to everyone.” ~ Kathryn L, Nyack
