Jared's expertise and time spent actively listening, genuinely empathizing, REALLY, really getting to know my dog's situation before we began training was nothing short of absolutely INVALUABLE to me. Jared is a skilled counselor as well as an expert dog trainer. I had relief and confidence after our intro talk. I knew that Jared was going to be very patient and very encouraging as I learned and then gradually mastered now, I feel, how to speak "dog language", as he says (and skillfully demonstrates) to my dog. My dog needed to know that I was the leader. He really didn't know that --- and I didn't know he din't know that. Jared taught ME how to teach him that. My dog is tremendously more relaxed, "waits" appropriately for food/ treats & affection, and RESPONDS to my behavior corrections and praise --- because I learned how to present these to him meaningfully, in "dog language". Jared has absolutely changed my life with his training and time. Where I once had fear about not having enough control over my dog's behavior, I now have confidence, relief, and quite literally, peace. Bark Busters' systems and philosophies are very clear, really concise, and "simplified", helpful for me as I became too easily confused and rattled, definitely too self-conscious in a "group" training environment with others. Bark Buster's one-on-one instructional format, with Jared's particular gifts as an expert in these training techniques AND as a sensitive counselor who understands dog parents' insecurities about their dogs' issues, is something I'm always, always going to be so grateful to have found.

I adopted Gili, a 10-month old female poodle–schnauzer mix, who came to me with several behavioral issues that appeared to stem from being treated poorly before I adopted her. Despite this, Gili quickly revealed herself to be a joyful, funny, and incredibly intelligent dog who was easy to train. However, there were a few serious behavioral issues that I could not resolve, no matter how hard I tried.
PermalinkAbout two weeks after coming into my home, Gili began to feel secure with me and in her environment. Unfortunately, that security turned into extreme protectiveness of herself, the house, and especially of me. She became reactive to unfamiliar people to the point that no one could enter our home or even come near me unless I medicated her or confined her to a bedroom to prevent incidents. I hired different trainers who were kind and well-intentioned, but their methods and advice were ineffective for the specific issues we were facing.
Then into our lives came Carrie, the owner of the local Bark Busters franchise. I do not believe I have enough words to describe how positive and effective our experience with Carrie has been. She is exceptionally knowledgeable about canine psychology and the development of behavioral issues, and most importantly, she has an incredible ability to identify the root cause of each specific problem with precision. In a caring, non violent yet effective way Carrie focuses not only on the dog, but also on how we, as humans, can unintentionally exacerbate issues while trying to compensate for our dog’s difficult past. She teaches people how to gently, confidently, and correctly address unwanted behaviors through proper posture, attitude, and consistency. What I love most about Carrie is her upbeat, joyful, and generous nature. You never feel rushed or inadequate; questions and input are welcomed and encouraged, no matter how long it takes. Carrie made it clear that she is committed to being there for both Gili and I for as long as it takes to create real, lasting change. She patiently and thoroughly addressed each issue in a way that was easy to understand, carefully explaining not just what to do, but why. I truly felt that she cared deeply about my understanding the methods, the sequence of exercises, and the reasoning behind them.
Although I have shared my adult life with five different dogs, this experience taught me something entirely new: my posture, energy, and state of mind during training are just as important as the commands themselves. I am incredibly grateful to have finally found a trainer who is not only a skilled behavioral therapist but also a master trainer—an essential combination, especially when working with a dog who was not raised from a young puppy and comes with a difficult history. In Gili’s case, that history left lasting emotional scars that affected how she interacts with the world. Not only did Carrie spend several hours working with us, but a few days later she followed up with a detailed and thoughtfully prepared email covering everything we had discussed. It included educational videos to further clarify the instructions, links to recommended toys and helpful equipment, a clear overview of the exercises Gili and I should practice, and much more. It was evident that Carrie spent many hours compiling this instructional guide, and it has already proven to be an invaluable resource for us.
Even though it has been less than a week since Carrie trained both of us, I am already seeing meaningful improvement in Gili’s behavior. More importantly, I now feel confident that I have the tools to help Gili reach her full potential and become the best version of herself, a happy, loving, and confident little lady who was always there beneath the hardships she endured before coming into my life. I am also reassured knowing that as time goes on, Carrie will be there for us whenever we need reinforcement of learned skills or guidance with any new challenges that may arise.

John was great. We learned so much in the first session and Stella already is responding. We feel very well prepared to train Stella.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "Life-Changing. Truly"
PermalinkI don’t write reviews lightly and I especially don’t write emotional ones but Bark Busters of San Diego quite literally gave me my life back.
For years, I lived in silence and stress. I couldn’t leave my home without my dogs barking, howling, scratching at their crates, and spiraling into panic. The mouth watering alone was enough to break me. So instead, I stayed home. I adjusted my life around their anxiety. I suffered quietly because I loved them and didn’t know what else to do.
Until one day I broke down completely.
I realized this wasn’t living not for me, and not for them. We deserved calm. We deserved peace. We deserved to live our "best" lives and this wasn’t it.
Some people complain in reviews that dog training “doesn’t work.” Let me be very clear: anxiety whether in humans or dogs is not something you fix by checking a box. A true behavioral therapist understands one thing above all else, "awareness". Anxiety comes from surroundings and perceived safety. The work is learning how to respond and create calm and that takes consistency.
I spent three straight weeks training four hours a day, every single day. I cried. I doubted myself. I wanted to quit. But I followed the Bark Busters program exactly as taught—daily simulations, real-world scenarios, repetition, and patience.
And then something incredible happened.
My dogs slept.
They relaxed.
They trusted.
Today, I can leave my home and my dogs are calm, quiet, and peacefully sleeping, knowing I’m coming back. Visitors come and go with ease. My 9- and 6-year-old Maltipoos are relaxed, confident, and happy. And so am I.
Here’s the truth people don’t want to hear, there is no magic pill. There is no shortcut. The training never “ends” because leadership and love are lifelong commitments. And honestly? That’s the gift. Once it becomes part of your daily life, it feels natural. I walk more. The cuddles are calmer. I’m no longer being climbed on out of anxiety I’m being loved in peace.
And about the cost? Think about it. You’ve already spent more on multiple trainers, treats, wasted time, emotional exhaustion, and a very unhappy household. Bark Busters’ training is guaranteed for life. If you move. If life changes. If new challenges come you’re supported. That matters more than people realize.
Justin and his team are beyond words. Compassionate. Honest. Direct. They don’t just train dogs, they train families.
Value your pet’s life. Value the short, precious time we get with them. Happiness for everyone in the home is worth the work.

Deb was great with helping us learn why our dog was behaving the way she was, and gave us useful tips to help correct her behavior. While correcting her excessive barking is a work in progress, we did see improvement immediately. Our dog is becoming more comfortable around other people and is barking less the more we work with her.

"About a month ago, we adopted a dog who suffers from severe separation anxiety, and from the very beginning, we felt overwhelmed and unsure how to help him properly. I did extensive research and spoke with many trainers, but Sharon was the only one who spoke with complete confidence, clearly explaining that she specializes in separation anxiety and assuring us she could guide us through this process.
PermalinkWe met at our home the very next day, which already showed her level of professionalism and care. From the moment she arrived, Sharon was patient, calm, extremely clear, and very thorough. She took the time to explain everything step by step, answered all of our questions, and made sure both my partner and I fully understood what we needed to do.
What truly amazed us was that, in less than an hour, our dog began responding and applying what we had practiced during the session. Seeing such immediate progress gave us so much hope and reassurance. Sharon didn’t just train our dog she taught us how to understand him better and how to help him in the right way.
We are still at the very beginning of the process, but I can already say with complete confidence that choosing Sharon was the best decision we could have made. I wholeheartedly recommend her services to anyone dealing with separation anxiety or looking for a knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate trainer.

We reached out to Ryan and BarkBusters to help with our 3 dogs (9, 8.5, & 4 years old). While our dogs are super sweet, they were a mess; reactive, pullers, no boundaries, dog aggressive. We noticed a huge change after just one session! Today we were able to take the to a park with other dogs. They are more polite, so easy to walk, and sweeter than ever. This training was a game changer, we couldn't recommend Ryan more strongly.
