Welcome. I am Amanda Adams, your local South Austin Bark Busters Trainer & Dog Behavioral Therapist. I've been a "dog person" my entire life! I've lived in Texas since 2013 and since arriving in Austin, I haven't looked back! I'm a dog mom to two Pugs, a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd mix, but in addition to my own four pups, I am an avid volunteer for the Austin Pug Rescue, so my extended canine family is vast! 

Before joining the Bark Busters family, I worked with dogs daily, running my own doggie daycare, in addition to boarding and walking dogs. While I loved this work, many of my clients were struggling with dog behavior issues. Now, I'm thrilled to be able to help these families live happier lives together with their canine family members!

Amanda is a God send!! We have had continual issues with our dogs and we have had multiple trainers either not believe us or provide guidance that did not prove effective. WOW! Amanda came out and within the first session, my dogs responded perfectly! I was ready to rehome them because I was frustrated with their behavior and no clue what to do. I have an amazing dog, really. But, we had an issue with manners, boundaries and walking. The first session we had with Amanda, teddy wasn't as involved. She took time with the family unit to understand our dynamics and how we interact with not only each other but with Teddy. I love how she called out human behavior that impacts a dogs stability and made real (and realistic) recommendations that made such a huge impact in the first session. I mean, I feel like I have a lot more power in my household and boundaries while still loving my Teddy as intensely as I do. I started using Bark Busters Dog Training in 2018 after my dog and I were attacked by an off leash dog while on a walk. It was a traumatizing experience for both of us and we desperately needed help with walking/leash training after the incident. I can't express enough gratitude for the phenomenal work done by Amanda. After years of struggling with my 7-year-old doodle's reactivity, I had almost given up hope on the possibility of her being able to walk by another dog without lunging, barking, and/or growling. Jill was very reactive when on leash for other dogs. It was a constant struggle on walks. We met Amanda in the mid-afternoon and joined her Pack walk later in the evening. Jill was a transformed dog. There were ~10 dogs around, and she was focused on me and barely looked at another dog. Amanda helped me take my little mutt go from a crazy to calm in just a few hours. We will keep practicing her training instructions so that we continue to reinforce the improvements.

Amanda, our trainer is a genius. She showed me this video of a mama dog correcting her pups
and this is what the leader of the pack (me) does. I’m basically mama grunting at them when they do anything out of line or any thing I want to correct. Amanda is super cool and personable and can show you so many ways to get your dogs in line. There’s obviously more to it than just grunting so make you’re appointment with this company!!! My dogs are happier dogs! My dogs don’t have anxiety and IIIIIIIIII don’t have anxiety. I can enjoy my dogs now!

It’s crazy. It’s totally working! No treat or punish training.

My Cooper is not fear barking and lunging at people and my other dog Hunny isn’t separation anxiety barking outside when she can’t see me.

It took one water spray and a grunt before she came inside; I closed the door again and she quietly, patiently waited to come in until I let her.

Some dogs are a little more stubborn (cooper has been surprisingly) but it’s working. Hunny fell in line immediately.

My dogs aren’t CRAZY! Amanda and I are working on leash training in 2 weeks. Potty/ crate training rn. No more pee pads.

Amanda is great. If I could give 10 stars, I would. She showed up at the house this evening and Freide was at the door waiting to jump on Amanda. Freide would not let me put the harness on her to restrain her.

After restraining Freide, we discussed our goals with Amanda. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first. However Amanda had us crate Freide as we discussed what we would be doing moving forward. We then let Freide out and Amanda showed us how to keep Freide from jumping on the sofa, or even going towards the door, or kitchen.

I was totally amazed that in only 20 minutes Amanda had Freide from going on the couch, but towards the door and kitchen. We saw a totally different pup in 20 minutes of working with Amanda. I'm really looking forward to seeing more changes from Freide moving forward.

Amanda has been my dog trainer for a year and half now and the things she has taught me not only about my dogs, but about myself are truly life-changing. My dogs, Finley and Dakota, began fighting almost every day when my girlfriend and I moved into a new home. Our dogs could not even be in the same room together and now they are at the point where they play almost twice a day.

Amanda is so confident and knowledgeable and truly wants to educate others on how to communicate with dogs. She wants to share her expertise in order to make us as dog owners more confident and comfortable in our everyday lives. Have a 4-year old lab/staffy mix who has gone through two trainers and a board & train. She would bark and charge at the door if she saw anything (sometimes when she just saw the wind blow), jump over the couch (and yes, over people sitting on the couch) to get to the door faster and pull so hard on her leash during walks. My husband was on the cusp of wanting her gone because we were about to have our first baby and we didn’t feel comfortable with her energy levels. He felt he had no control over her. I found Bark Busters through Google search and decided to reach out because I didn’t want to get rid of my dog. I thought, Third trainer’s a charm!
Amanda is a great trainer and good people! My dog responds well to the training and she doesn’t run our household anymore. She still barks at the door and that’s fine because she isn’t as wired and bossy as she was 2 months ago AND doesn’t pull on walks anymore. But most importantly, she has been great with our one week old son. She listens more to us because we have established more leadership.
The homework Amanda gives you is very helpful and you’ll have access to those resources forever if you ever forget some steps. It’s also lovely how reachable she is for any questions or concerns you may have. I definitely feel that my dog is being taken care of.

At first I was hesitant about the training just because I’ve heard a lot of different things about trainers and their methods but when I looked over the page and saw all the reviews I took the chance and was not disappointed. From the moment I input all my information to Amanda coming out to work with my dog and I, I was blown away. The attention she pays to not only my dog but me as well was mind blowing. You can tell she is passionate about what she does and really makes you feel heard but also holding you accountable. I may have only had 1 session so far but I’m so happy and cannot wait to see all the work she’s helped me with pay off for my pup and I! Id genuinely recommend to anyone having behavioral issues because she makes you feel heard and seen while having your back in order to help you and your pup. Fabulous! Where do I start? Let’s start with the foundation of Amanda, she’s definitely a big dog and what I mean by that is that she KNOWS her stuff…and she’s not afraid to share it with you! The entire time I felt more confident and in control of my household with two long-time resident dogs and newly adopted shelter dog than I did for a long time. I am optimistic that with understanding the behaviors of dogs, their thinking, and their basic needs — we can be better dog parent/leader.

While today was my first session and my household has pretty interesting multiple layers to it, I can imagine that some household would only require one session with Amanda. She’s amazing.

Another important note to add is that the adults in the household are deaf, and Amanda was such a great listener and teacher in figuring out what communication methods worked the best for all of us; including one of our dogs who is also deaf.

All in all, this was well worth the money, yes it’s pretty pricy, but the knowledge and support is worth it.

My husband and I learned so much from our very first visit with Amanda! Not only did we discuss techniques to lead our dogs, but a lot of the reasons that might have been causing some of the behaviors in the first place. We already have been able to replicate the strategies with very promising results! The energy level in our home is much different and more gentle this morning than yesterday before our first session. Amanda is wonderful. We recently rescued a 10-month-old dog 5 week ago, we were struggle with walks, calling, and anxiety (pacing within the house).
