Welcome. I am Evan Richter, your Bark Busters Dog Trainer and Dog Behavioral Therapist in the North Detroit suburbs.

Dogs have been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have never lived in a home without a dog. In fact, I currently have an English Labrador Retriever named Arlo. Arlo is a working retriever and we train regularly in and out of the water, performing at a high level. This kind of working ability requires intense focus and guidance.

My interest in training came from my family. My Aunt and Grandparents own and show AKC Champion Rottweilers and AKC Champion Irish Terriers. I also grew up with Mini Dachshunds and an Australian Cattle Dog, so I spent a lot of time around serious dog fanciers and I learned a lot from them. In fact, this is what inspired me to become a Bark Busters franchise owner. 

I moved to the northern suburbs of Detroit a few years ago and have been working with clients and their dogs in cities/towns including Macomb County, Shelby Township, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland County and more throughout the region. I enjoy working with dogs every day and helping my clients develop the best relationship possible with their dogs here in the northern suburbs of Detroit.

At Bark Busters, we clear up the miscommunication between dogs and humans, which is at the root of many dog behavioral issues, by teaching everyone to speak the same language – dog!

Through Bark Busters dog training methods, I can help you to improve your dog's behavior so that you can live in harmony. I partner with and teach dog owners to turn around even the most difficult challenges with their dog's behavior using natural and positive training methods. Sometimes I am the dog's last chance to stay with their family due to their behavioral issues.

My dog is very well on his obedience but he was a singleton ( only child) and did not learn how to respond to other dogs and their cues. I recently hired Bark Busters who are behavioral specialists. Our instructor came last night and today my dog acts like the weight of the world has been lifted from him. He has done great with homework! Evan Ritcher is the instructor and has been phenomenal! Evan came highly recommended to us by a friend and my husband and I are SO GRATEFUL we listened. Our dog was a little over 1 year old and she was still pulling on walks, getting overly excited and jumping on anyone that came near her, as well as not listening to us for simple commands such as “come”. We came all the way up to Michigan from Nashville and set up training sessions. Evan met up with us and was immediately kind, patient, and extremely informative. We worked with him for a few hours and already after the first session we saw improvement with our pup. Once we learned how to properly train her, the rest wasn’t easy but it was worth it. We had to stay disciplined ourselves in keeping with all the training practices but after a couple months we feel like we have a new dog! She is now a great listener, is MUCH less reactive, and she has stopped pulling on her leash as if she were a sled dog. All that to say, we couldn’t have accomplished any of this without Evan. Our two goldens Sadie and Beau had some serious jealousy issues when the younger one came home as a puppy. This year we added a second dog to our family and training a puppy and having a mature dog was tough. Evan to the rescue, he came in and helped us teach our dogs manners. Door bashing, sitting on furniture (without an invite), dishwasher behavior were our challenges. Post COVID/being home we'd been having issues managing boundaries like staying out of the kitchen while preparing food, begging for food at the table, and owning the door for entry and exit from our home. In addition to being super cute - our mini-dachshund is pretty tenacious. Evan gave us great tools and an understanding of how to "talk" to dogs. Gunnar understood almost immediately and with consistency and work we've seen miraculous improvement. Evan helped to address these bad habits and behaviors that to be honest we humans had created. We were at the point where we were ready to find a new home for Gus ... he was just way more than we could handle and we didn't know where to begin. My brother used Bark Busters and had Evan train his dogs that were aggressive and he said it went amazing so I gave them a call. My dog Mona had a serious case of separation anxiety and I needed it fixed. Evan came and helped me solve the problem. Evan did an amazing job! I have a larger breed dog who has always been on the more aggressive side. Bruno is now much easier to control while on walks and after one lesson with Evan he knows who the boss is and obeys even around other dogs. Hiring Evan to tame my two ferocious beasts was the best investment I have made. Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating on the ferocious part, but they would fight each other for my attention and once even drew blood. I also couldn't walk them both on leash at the same time, and in the morning, I barely have enough time to walk one of them. Evan taught me how to be a better pack leader soo that I could be better prepared and more in control. The change in my dogs was like night and day. Wallace was a pandemic puppy, meaning he was used to me being at home. When I started going back to work 3 days/week, his bad behaviors magnified. Thank goodness for Evan! Not only did he help Wallace with his separation anxiety, but walks used to be a nightmare because of the pulling. I am so impressed with the results of Evan's training! He really cares about his clients and the results of his training. I have an aggressive dog who wouldn't stop jumping all over people and would bolt out the door the minute it was opened. As soon as he would see other dogs, he would growl, but never harm them. Before this escalated, I called Evan. What I like about his training is that it's a natural canine communication system. Evan taught me how to lead Charlie so that he no longer felt he had to protect me. I would highly recommend Evan.

If not for Evan, we would have had to take our dog to the shelter. We live in an apartment and the neighbors were complaining about Berkeley's incessant barking while we were at work. Additionally, our complex has a dog park, and Berkeley was very reactive to the other dogs. I didn't think it was possible, but I saw a major difference in my dog in the first lesson.
