In-Home Dog Training Services in the Greater Grand Rapids area!

Welcome. I am Erin Miller, your Bark Busters Dog Trainer and Dog Behavioral Therapist in Grand Rapids. Animals of all kinds, but most notably, dogs and horses, have been an integral part of my life since childhood. Starting with Dalmatians, Dobermans, Airedale Terriers, and my immediate family's dogs including English Labrador Retrievers, Irish Terriers and Dachshunds. My exposure and experience with so many different breeds of dogs not only comes from family dogs, but working with clients dogs every day and through years of attending dog shows.

For the past two decades I have personally raised, trained and shown my own Champion and Grand Champion Rottweilers in countless American Kennel Club (AKC) and United Kennel Club (UKC) competitions, finishing and titling my dogs in conformation, obedience and rally to name a few.

A few years ago I became a Bark Busters franchise owner and have been working with clients and their dogs in the greater Grand Rapids area including Byron Center, Caledonia, Cedar Springs, Rockford, Kentwood, Wyoming, Grandville, Northview, Forest Hills, Belmont, Cedar Springs, Cuttlerville, Walker, Ada, and more cities and towns throughout the area.

Many families struggle with dog behavior that becomes untenable, which causes stress for everyone in the home. I help with issues such as aggression, separation anxiety, barking, jumping, leash reactivity and pulling, window and door reactivity, door manners, toileting, sibling rivalry to name a few. I also help clients in preparing to bring a new baby home as well as preparing for and training a new puppy. Using the Bark Busters methods, I can help you see significant improvement in your dog’s behavior in our first training session, improvements that will only strengthen over the weeks.

My goal is to help you build the trusting, respectful, and rewarding relationship you’ve always wanted with your dog. If Bark Busters is the right fit for your family, I’d be happy to help you achieve your training goals. Reach out today to learn more!

Dog Training Reviews & Testimonials

See what dog owners in Grand Rapids have to say

...Wow! After one lesson, and daily incorporating of the exercises and techniques, our pups are on the road to success...and so are their parents 😀. Worthwhile investment for a happy life with 2 dogs who are learning boundaries and expectations.
We can't wait for our next lessons!
...We were skeptical at first, but Erin’s patience, knowledge, and effective training methods quickly put our concerns to rest.

The results have been remarkable. Our Shih Tzu is much calmer, more obedient, and more responsive than we ever expected. Erin provided practical techniques that were easy to follow and made an immediate difference in our home.

We are very grateful we decided to give Bark Busters a try and highly recommend Erin Miller to anyone looking for effective, compassionate dog training that delivers real results.
I cannot speak highly enough of Erin's knowledge of dogs and her ability to teach owners how to successfully lead their dogs into positive behaviors. Erin understands how the mind of a dog works and how to teach owners how to communicate with their dogs in a way that dogs naturally understand (even older dogs!). Setting up a time to work with her was very easy and she is a very kind and compassionate person to owners and pets. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge so that owners and pets have the best relationship possible. Bottom line is successful dog training starts with training the owner and Erin is amazing at doing that!
Erin at Bark Busters is beyond amazing. Her knowledge and expertise are surpassed by NONE. I had a Rottweiler that would bolt out of her crate. Within 10 minutes, she was sitting and waiting for me to give her the release queue. Erin's accomplishments in 10 minutes are more than it took me forever to get trained. Erin also went over some problem areas. My dog again corrected very quickly, and this is because Erin has all the knowledge, patience, and expertise. I would highly recommend Erin with Bark Busters to anyone
I have three dogs, and I thought I had a decent handle on training, but I was completely outnumbered! My oldest, an 11-year-old, barks excessively, and I honestly didn’t think anything could help. I had tried trainers and every gadget imaginable with no success. My puppy has had multiple surgeries and health issues, so she wasn’t properly socialized or trained, and with her medications, I often wasn’t even sure what she could understand. My third dog is generally well-behaved but can be aggressive toward the other two.

I expected training to take months with gradual progress, because a lifetime of dogs and experience with past dog trainers always took so much time and effort. But I was shocked to see positive results with Bark Busters within the first 24 hours. My barker has quieted significantly, my young dog responded almost immediately, and I now have far more control over all three, which has greatly reduced aggression in the household. And we haven’t even had our second in-person session yet!

The Bark Busters team is knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly effective. If you rescue a dog or just want to invest in their happiness and your peace of mind, do yourself a favor and work with Bark Busters. I’m thrilled with the results so far and can’t wait to see even more progress as we continue training. Erin and her team is knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly gets results. It’s already proven so well worth it!!!!

I can’t say enough good things about Erin Miller at Bark Busters! My Rottweiler, Cerberus, was a handful — lunging, nipping, reactive, and basically running the house. I was at my wits’ end before working with Erin. From the very first session, she helped me understand why Cerberus was acting out and gave me clear, practical tools to change his behavior. The transformation has been incredible! He’s now calm, responsive, and respectful — a totally different dog. Erin’s calm, confident approach made all the difference, and she genuinely cares about both the dog and the owner. I finally feel in control and connected with my dog in a way I never thought possible. If you’re struggling with your pup’s behavior, don’t hesitate — Erin is the real deal!
Erin was a great trainer! Our dog is already responding better to commands after only one visit. Would highly recommend her and Bark Busters!
I hired Erin to help me with my 7mth old Maltipoo. He is such an adorable dog and because he is super cute he gets away with a lot. I decided that I cant have a dog that bolts out the door down the driveway. That jumps on my guests. That wrestled with his 15-year-old sister while I was entertaining my guests. My guests weren’t any help be cause well he is super cute and it was making him even more hyper. I tried all the old dog training hacks that have worked for me in the past but he just wasn’t understanding me. So for his safety and our sanity, I hired Erin to help me train him.

I had him in his crate when she came over. He of course was so excited to see her. I had him sit which lasted for a second and kept asking him to sit. She said here let me show you how to stop him trying to leave his crate without permission. Within two minutes, my cute littler energizer puppy was calm and came out the crate so nicely. When he tried to jump on her, she corrected him. When he was being mouthy she corrected him. She then showed me how to regain control of my front door and guests. She was at my home for a few hours and left me with some amazing tools. She did all this while being such a kind, compassionate person to Oliver. I’m on day three of continued training and I can honestly say, I am enjoying my sweet Oliver even more.

I am so thankful for all of her training advice. Oliver is on his way to be a great member of our house. I can't recommend her services enough!
Erin was amazing. She made room for our family in her busy schedule. After an hour of training with Erin, she guided us on how to train Coco to remain calm and his nipping has decreased and we have also learned on how to control his aggression better. Erin also explains the reasoning behind why things need to be set up or done a certain way, so we also better understand our puppy too. Highly recommend Erin and Bark Busters!
Erin is an incredible dog trainer. She has continually been super responsive and clearly loves this work!
Erin was so great - she worked with all of us as a family and taught us some wonderful new skills to work on with our pups! Looking forward to a continued partnership!
Amazing! Erin spent much longer with us than stated in our initial session to help with our rescued Fox Hound's bed aggression and a battery of other behavior/obedience issues. The results after one day have been more better than I expected! I highly recommend their services if you're willing to put time into daily training exercises (it IS do-able) - your pet is worth it!

2 sessions in and so far so good, no miracle fixes as it does take time to complete the big picture (but we feel happy and are having fun with the progress) and it should be noted the method is to train the humans to lead. It is very interesting and eye opening when you start to realize how much you inadvertently allow your pooch to lead.
Our trainer is Erin Miller and she seems very passionate and knowledgeable, a person that seems to want to know each clients individual needs and is very easy to work with.
Erin has so many valuable insights on all dog breeds and knows what it takes to correct negative behaviors specific to each breed. She enjoys working with clients in achieving excellent results together. Anyone who hires Erin as a dog trainer is sure to be pleased with the results.
My wife and I have just moved to the area and noticed our 1.5 yr old Goldendoodle had some negative behaviors that we wanted changed. I came across Bark Busters on Google and set up our training sessions with Erin.

Erin spent the good part of 3-3.5 hours with us and our pup which was worth every second. She made us realize how we should be the leader of the pack and not our pup. With her help and guidance we already saw a change in him and us.

She has set us up for success and can’t wait to keep this going forward. It’s been a blessing.
Erin was so patient with me and my baby girls, I have a 1-1/2 yr and 2-1/2 year old rotweiller females who knew they were running the show, now I feel a little more in control of my girls in just a few days by putting her tips and training into practice! Highly recommended
After the 1st session with Erin and our first day going thru all of the exercises with our dogs, we have seen a big difference. We can not wait to see what the future holds for our family with these two amazing pups. We are more responsible and the dogs are more relaxed. Seems like is was an us problem, not the dogs. Thank you Erin!

Had a great experience in the lesson with Erin! Her training had amazing almost immediate effect on a poodle with bad habits. Highly recommend if you are struggling with disobedience.
Learned so much in just a few hours and already seeing improvement in behavior. Erin is definitely an expert in speaking “dog”. Looking forward to our next session.
Erin helped me so much with my pup! He pulled on the leash, barked at everything, and peed in the house. She gave me the knowledge and tools to fix it all.
We had a very positive experience with Erin. Our problem is with aggression in a 2 year shepherd we adopted. She spent a lot of time with us on our first visit. Over and above what we expected. The first day after his first session and he’s already catching on. It turns out what we originally thought we were supposed to be doing only encouraged his aggressive behavior. Erin is very knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about her business. Highly Recommend!

Are You Struggling with an Aggressive Dog?

Aggression is a learned behavior, not a personality type. A dog can exhibit aggression toward humans or other animals and can be caused by improper socialization, dominance, frustration, possessiveness, trauma, neglect, medical issues or fear. Any one of these causes mixed with adrenaline and inappropriate education can be a recipe for danger.

It’s important to understand the root cause of the dog's aggression. We can help you do that. We will assess the root cause and help you implement strategies to resolve these issues and reduce the stress it creates while training, learning and growing with your dog.

Some trainers won’t take on aggression cases. We will not use e-collars or other abrasive techniques. Bark Busters Grand Rapids has successfully dealt with an array of aggression issues including:

  • Resource guarding
  • Human aggression
  • Dog-on-dog aggression
  • Food aggression
  • Possessive aggression
  • Territorial aggression

Dog Destroying Household Items

Is Your Dog's Behavior Becoming Unmanageable?

Do you have a dog exhibiting bad behaviors that have become impossible to live with? Have you just adopted a dog from a rescue or shelter and they are struggling to transition into their new home? Have you just brought home a new puppy and you need help?

These behaviors include barking, jumping up, door manners, destruction, toileting issues, reactivity, resource guarding, leash pulling, etc. Bark Busters trainers have been helping clients for over 35 years with these types of challenges and more, additionally specializing in behavioral modification with difficult cases in separation anxiety, aggression, sibling rivalry, multi-dog homes and other difficult issues.

We're Experts in Dog Behavioral Solutions

  • Aggressive dog behavior is often learned, typically stemming from feelings of dominance, vulnerability, fear, or a perceived lack of protection. It can develop as a survival mechanism or due to a misunderstanding of the dog's role within its family. Identifying the root cause of this behavior is essential in addressing what triggers your dog's aggression.
  • Separation anxiety in dogs is a complex behavioral issue with negative consequences. Dogs can grow accustomed to having their families around and may become confused when they are suddenly left alone more frequently. Addressing this issue early can prevent significant stress for both dogs and their owners.
  • Sibling rivalry in a multi-dog household is a serious issue many dog owners face. Bark Busters trainers can help identify the underlying causes of rivalry and work to resolve it before it escalates.

We help our clients with all these types of behavioral challenges on a daily basis at their home, in their yard or neighborhood. A dog's home is where they are most familiar, most comfortable and feel the safest, while not competing with outside distractions. The home is also convenient for our clients allowing the flexibility of scheduling times that work within their schedule.

No Dog is Beyond Help

No dog is beyond help and every dog deserves a chance to be the dog you are looking for as a loving companion in your home. Bark Busters Grand Rapids is committed to helping every client using our unique behavioral modification therapy to help dogs unlearn unwanted behaviors and restructure their responses in a way that is clear for both the dog and the owner.
