Home Dog Training in St. Pete, Clearwater & Surrounding Areas

Welcome! I’m Sharon Kondash, your Bark Busters dog trainer and behavioral therapist serving families throughout Pinellas County, including St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Seminole, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Tarpon Springs, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, St. Pete Beach, and surrounding communities.

Bark Busters is the worldwide leader in in-home dog training, helping more than 1 million dogs and their owners worldwide. I help families resolve challenging dog behavior issues using natural, proven training methods that improve communication and create lasting results. Because training takes place in your home, we are able to address behavior problems where they actually happen.

Whether you have a new puppy, rescue dog, senior dog, or adult dog with longstanding behavior issues, I can help. I work with dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments and help families overcome common challenges such as barking, leash pulling, jumping, separation anxiety, aggression, sibling rivalry, and more.

At Bark Busters, we train dog owners as much as we train dogs. Dogs communicate through body language, voice tone, and energy, not through spoken language. I’ll teach you how to communicate with your dog in a way they naturally understand so you can build trust, respect, and clear leadership while strengthening your relationship with your dog.

Most clients notice a significant improvement after the very first lesson. If you have been frustrated, overwhelmed, or unsure how to help your dog, you are not alone. My goal is to help you create a calmer, happier home with practical, personalized dog training that delivers real-world results.

I am often called when other training methods have failed. Bark Busters is trusted by veterinarians, rescue organizations, and dog owners throughout the St. Petersburg and Clearwater area for solving even the most challenging dog behavior problems.

...I never really trained a puppy before, but Sharon breaks down the skills and demonstrates them so well...we get a nearly instant response.

BarkBusters can help you with short-term issues...or like us...you can have her be available for the life of your dog....as their (your) needs change. It's a GREAT INVESTMENT in a well behaved and happier fur friend.
...One session with Sharon and we have the tools to gain some freedom. We are on day 2 and we’ve already made so much progress. We are able to better communicate with our dog and help her understand that she is safe and can relax when we leave. It pretty remarkable!!
My dog had extreme separation anxiety. He would claw at the door and jump for over 30 minutes or more if left alone that long. I wanted to get at the heart of the problem and not use scare tactics for an already terrified dog. Sharon’s training helped him realize I was coming back using gestures and body language. He started calming down right away on our very first training session with Sharon.. I’m now able to leave him without crating him and with no scratching or jumping at the door. The tools really worked. They were not treat based, they are not punishment based. We used dog psychology. It was amazing!
Sharon was amazing! Super nice and great with our dog :) We definitely noticed a difference after one session. I would definitely recommend!
Sharon was absolutely amazing with my little Copper! We were struggling with excessive barking and nipping whenever someone left the house or walked by outside. In just one three-hour session, Sharon not only showed me how to properly handle these situations but also helped Copper make incredible progress immediately. What impressed me most was that even after Sharon left, Copper responded to the techniques the very next day and showed a whole new level of respect and manners. He truly feels like a different dog now. Our bond has become even stronger, and our cuddle time is so much more enjoyable with the new level of trust and listening we’ve built together. I’m so grateful for Sharon’s patience, knowledge, and guidance!
We would highly recommend Sharon and Bark Busters. We were having trouble with our pup especially with personal space, general obedience, no recall, fear of people, and barking at everything. We have had many dogs before but this one is a handful. When Sharon came, it was remarkable how quickly our dog responded. She showed us simple, effective exercises and clearly explained what we needed to do to get our dog where we wanted her to be. It was also great to have a training method that is friendly and not treat-driven. Looking back, it’s surprising how far off we were in using the right approach, but with Sharon’s guidance, we’ve seen a dramatic improvement in our dog.
Sharon from Bark Busters came to my home today for 3 hours and left me with a new dog! My little boy Chip was having difficulty resource guarding issues and not very friendly to our boy dog in the home. By the time Sharon from BB left, I had a pup who looked at me differently and definitely acted different. It was great! I realize I have to keep up with the exercises, but I feel better about my future with Chip and I know he is feeling more confident and comfortable. Thank you so much!
Helpful, professional and educational! Sharon came to our home, spent three hours teaching us how to communicate with our dog. After just one visit we have seen a great amount of progress.
Sharon is fantastic. We found ourselves in a frustrating time with our puppy and Sharon, and her team was great. From our super thorough intake call to getting an appointment super fast, she addressed all of our concerns with understanding and immediately put our puppy and us at ease. She checked in, is reachable, and we can already see the difference, not just in our pup but in us as well. She trains both the humans and the dogs and showed us how to have a better dog. We have tried other trainers and methods, with limited success, which caused more frustration, yet her approach has made a difference almost immediately. Highly recommend!
We had a great experience with our trainer, Sharon! Our 5-month-old toy poodle, Jax, has made huge progress with potty training, leash walking, and adjusting to our home. She was patient, knowledgeable, and especially wonderful including my 7-year-old daughter, Millie, in the process. It made such a difference for our whole family. Highly recommend Sharon and Bark Busters!
Sharon is an amazing trainer! She is so patient and kind (with me and my dog). Our dog went from being very aggressive toward new people and guests to being so sweet and willing to meet them! They will meet you at your house or any place you would like to train. I think it is very important to train in real settings, not a false setting like a facility. The results are fantastic! Highly recommend to ease tensions and reduce stress with an ill-behaved pup!
Hello! I have been working with Sharon for about a year now. My dog has been dealing with fear, anxiety, and reactviity around others and overreacting to stimuli. Sharon has helped me understand how I can make my dog feel safer, calmer and micro dose my dog to have better interactions. Using her guidance over several sessions in various settings including in and around my home and in public, I have seen improvement that has made it easier for me to have control over my life and allowed me to move to my dream location with far less concern for my dog's mental health. Sharon has done quite a few follow-up sessions as needed to support us in this journey. Thank you Sharon!
Sharon at Bark Busters has really helped me develop the right behaviors to bring out the best in my beautiful Bernie doodle...BAYOU. I've never really trained a puppy before, but Sharon breaks down the skills and demonstrates them so well... we get a nearly instant response. Bark Busters can help you with short-term issues...or like us...you can have her be available for the life of your dog....as their (your) needs change. It's a GREAT INVESTMENT in a well-behaved and happier fur friend.
We've been very pleased with Sharon at Bark Busters. This is our first puppy....in 25 years...so it's been great to relearn the do's and don'ts, especially now that we're retired and have more time...to pay attention :) Would highly recommend them as a solid INVESTMENT in making your long-term DOGGY relationship, the BEST it can be. It's great knowing we can get advice...whenever we need it.
A huge thank you to Sharon from Bark Busters for all her professionalism and expertise on training our puppy as well as us humans on how to train our puppy. We learned so much, and we highly recommend her to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable experience with their dog. Thank you again 5 ⭐️

We have a 10 month old Shihpoo with separation anxiety. We couldn’t leave the house without her. She would yelp and cry uncontrollably. We tried crate training and watched so many videos looking for a training method that would work. One session with Sharon and we have the tools to gain some freedom. We are on day 2 and we’ve already made so much progress. We are able to better communicate with our dog and help her understand that she is safe and can relax when we leave. It pretty remarkable!!
After our first session with Sharon, my dog Molly and I were able to walk better together on a leash and she was more calm during my absence. Sharon is a great coach and highly accessible either in person, text or phone. I’d highly recommend her services as she is very customer focused and very experienced.
Sharon from Bark Busters is absolutely amazing. She is very knowledgeable, very friendly, has a wealth of very valuable information, for puppies / dog training. She helped me with our four-month-old Chihuahua on house breaking, chewing, not eating poop, crate training, and our eight-year-old min pin Chihuahua with separation anxiety. Our four-month-old is new to our family, andf she provided me with a wealth of valuable information to help with training both our dogs. I totally recommend Sharon. She is a gem and is absolutely doing what she is meant to be doing.
Sharon was so helpful and supportive in our first session and really educated us on how dogs communicate and we realized how much it makes sense and how we had work to do with our German shepherd Abby. Sharon spent 4 hours with us practicing the training and answering our questions about how to handle situations. It is very evident that Sharon loves what she does and makes you and your dog feel comfortable while you are uncomfortable because you thought you knew how to communicate with your dog. The day after training, Abby was a completely different dog on her walk. Learning you need to be the leader and she can’t walk ahead, you control stops and how to help your reactive dog when other dogs are around. I am so pleased with Abby’s progress in a day and we will continue to do our training drills each day and watch her grow. I am so glad I reached out to Sharon.
Sharon has been extremely communicative and responsive since the moment I reached out to her to look for assistance with our puppy. Even after 1 training session we already feel more confident and in control of the house and our dog is on his way to learning all the good things!
"About a month ago, we adopted a dog who suffers from severe separation anxiety, and from the very beginning, we felt overwhelmed and unsure how to help him properly. I did extensive research and spoke with many trainers, but Sharon was the only one who spoke with complete confidence, clearly explaining that she specializes in separation anxiety and assuring us she could guide us through this process.

We met at our home the very next day, which already showed her level of professionalism and care. From the moment she arrived, Sharon was patient, calm, extremely clear, and very thorough. She took the time to explain everything step by step, answered all of our questions, and made sure both my partner and I fully understood what we needed to do.

What truly amazed us was that, in less than an hour, our dog began responding and applying what we had practiced during the session. Seeing such immediate progress gave us so much hope and reassurance. Sharon didn’t just train our dog she taught us how to understand him better and how to help him in the right way.

We are still at the very beginning of the process, but I can already say with complete confidence that choosing Sharon was the best decision we could have made. I wholeheartedly recommend her services to anyone dealing with separation anxiety or looking for a knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate trainer.
My dog (Bindi, greyhound) and I met Sharon about 1 year ago and I can honestly say I have no regrets and would recommend her to anyone I know. I originally called Sharon because I had just adopted Bindi and found out quickly that she seemed to have aggression problems and pretty serious resource guarding. After just 1 visit and after doing our "homework" the next couple days our whole dynamic changed. It seemed like we understood each other and a solid foundation of trust was built. She wanted to cuddle more and almost immediately seemed to feel more comfortable with aggression problems fading in just days. After we became comfortable with eachother Sharon was happy to meet us at the park and learn how to interact with other dogs too without getting into major fights. This did take some practice but Sharon gave us the tools to be able to meet new dogs in a safe and calm way in the future. Bindi is much more comfortable around other dogs now and I know this would not be the case without her help. My favorite thing about this method of training is that we did not need to use a shock collar. We simply learned using the dog's communication signals and everything seemed to come very natural. I still use the communication methods everyday. I called a trainer because I was desperate and scared of my own dog but Sharon genuinely made such a difference in ways that I did not even predict. 5 stars and highly recommend!
Our puppy, Steven, had some behaviors we weren’t sure how to handle. We searched online and ended up trying PetSmart training, but unfortunately it was a failure. We stopped after just two sessions. Fast forward three months, and not only were the behaviors still there, they were increasing.

After wasting money and putting stress on ourselves and Steven with the previous training attempt, I was very hesitant to try again. I called Sharon and spoke with her assistant, who clearly explained the process and Sharon’s training style. Even though we were still cautious, we decided to move forward with a positive mindset.

And holy moly it was amazing! Sharon was incredibly patient and took the time to explain not only what she was doing, but why she was doing it. She truly taught us how to “speak dog” and understand Steven. We saw results after the very first session, and we were given homework to continue the progress and build on it even further.

The best part? There were no treats and no punishments. It was all about understanding, communication, and creating a lifelong, happy home for Steven.

If you’ve had a bad training experience in the past, don’t let that deter you. This isn’t typical dog training focused on “sit” and “stay.” This is training that helps you understand your dog so your dog can live his happiest, best life.
Sharon was truly a dog whisperer. She gave clear instructions to my elderly parent and the puppy has responded beautifully! After just one visit, we had so much more control even though he is a medium/large dog. Less pulling, jumping up on people, counter, surfing, and attention demanding. Then, when we needed some reminders and reinforcement, Sharon responded promptly and came right back to fill in the blanks that we had forgotten. I would highly recommend Sharon and Bark Busters!
I wish we had found Sharon when Thor was a puppy! We have a 6-year-old Australian Cattle Dog named Thor and he lives up to all the classic traits of a Heeler. He was constantly alert and on edge. He is triggered by movement. We had issues with him being reactive, chasing cars and barking at other dogs. We tried a “treat” based trainer, and while he learned a lot of tricks, it did not solve our dog's behavioral issues. Now I have ditched the treat bag and am relating to him on an instinctual level. It has made such a significant difference. He is so much calmer and even more affectionate. Sharon has taught us great behavioral techniques. She has been available anytime we needed more reinforcement and real settings with real dogs.
Sharon has been absolutely amazing to work with! My dog, Pretzel, is scared to walk on hard surfaces — something we’ve struggled with for years. Sharon has shown me patient, effective ways to help Pretzel gain confidence walking on our hardwood floors, and we’ve already made incredible progress. What really sets Sharon apart is how she helps me think differently. She’s taught me to see things from Pretzel’s perspective and to truly understand what’s going on in her head — it’s like learning to speak her (dog) language. I had worked with another trainer a few years ago, but it wasn’t nearly as effective as Sharon’s approach. She’s kind, patient (with both me and Pretzel!), and always quick to answer questions by text or call. I’m so grateful for her guidance and can’t wait to continue working with her!

Dog Training FAQs

When you contact Bark Busters, we'll schedule a private session in your home at a time that works best for you. During that first visit, I take the time to understand your dog, your household, and the specific behaviors you’d like to improve. Then I’ll show you how to communicate in a way your dog naturally understands.

There are no group classes, no sending your dog away, and no kennels. Training takes place where the behavior is actually happening — in your home. Most families see noticeable improvement during the very first session.

Yes. In fact, early puppy training is one of the smartest investments you can make. I help new puppy owners with:

  • Potty training
  • Crate training
  • Biting and nipping
  • umping
  • Socialization
  • Preventing future aggression or anxiety

The goal is not just short-term obedience. It is building clear communication from the beginning so small problems do not turn into bigger ones later.

I work with dogs of every breed and age, helping families overcome issues such as:

  • Leash pulling
  • Jumping on people
  • Excessive barking
  • Reactivity
  • Separation anxiety
  • Sibling rivalry between dogs
  • Destructive behavior
  • Door manners
  • Potty training
  • Recall and listening issues

If your dog’s behavior is making daily life stressful, chances are I've worked with the same issue before and know how to fix it. Not sure what the root problem is? Take our dog behavior quiz.

Most families notice a real difference during the very first session, something many clients mention in their reviews. Long-term success, however, comes from consistency at home.

My goal is to give you clear, practical guidance and simple daily exercises that fit into your routine. I’m also available between visits if questions come up along the way. The more consistently you apply the training, the faster and more lasting the results will be.

Bark Busters’ Gold Service provides in-home dog training support for the life of your dog, with no additional training fees. We don’t just run a set number of sessions and leave you to it. We continue to schedule follow-up lessons proactively until all behavioral issues are resolved, ensuring you feel confident every step of the way. Even if a completely unrelated behavioral issue arises in the future, just call us and we’ll be right back to help.

Between visits, I’m always available by phone or video if you have questions or need guidance. This support is there to complement your in-person training, not replace it.

If you move to another area served by Bark Busters, your support moves with you. A local trainer can continue your program seamlessly, either in person where available or remotely.

Reactive dog pulling on leash

Help for Your Reactive Dog Starts Here

Dogs that respond with unusually intense reactions to normal, everyday situations are often described as reactive. One of the most common forms is leash reactivity, which can include behaviors like barking, lunging, or pulling when they encounter other dogs, people, or even vehicles. These reactions are often mistaken for aggression, but they typically stem from overexcitement or frustration rather than true hostility.

What Causes Reactivity?

Reactivity in dogs is often linked to challenges with emotional self-control. This can result from poor or limited socialization during puppyhood, or from a traumatic experience that left a lasting impact. These triggers can cause a dog to overreact in certain situations. Working with a professional dog trainer who specializes in aggression can help pinpoint these behaviors and address the root causes effectively.

How to Resolve Reactive Behavior

At Bark Buster Greater Pinellas County, I focus on giving you practical tools and tips to help your dog feel more confident and relaxed, especially on the leash. It's all about teaching them to trust your lead, manage their excitement, and understand that they don’t have to protect or chase everything that moves. If you’re ready to have calm and stress-free walks, contact me today.

Dog with anxiety Bark Busters Home Dog Training

Is Your Dog Suffering from Symptoms of Separation Anxiety?

If your dog howls, whines, barks, or becomes destructive when you leave, they may be experiencing separation anxiety. This condition is essentially a fear of being alone. A dog with separation anxiety often feels stressed the entire time you're gone, day after day. They need to learn that it's okay for you to leave—that they're safe while you're away and that you will always come back.

Symptoms of Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety can materialize differently in different dogs and in different situations, but may include:

  • Excessive vocalization (howling, barking)
  • Inappropriate toileting
  • Destructive behavior (chewing, digging)
  • Excessive panting
  • Pacing and drooling

Separation anxiety in dogs can have several causes, one of the most common being unintentional conditioning by owners. This often happens when puppies are over-indulged and never given the opportunity to get used to being alone. Over-indulgence can include letting the puppy inside as soon as they cry or giving them immediate attention the moment you come home, reinforcing the idea that they should always have constant access to you.

How to Relieve Separation Anxiety

At Bark Busters Pinellas County, we specialize in addressing separation anxiety in your dog's home environment. If your dog exhibits anxiety upon your departure, professional intervention is vital. Contact me today.
